History of the Moes

Legend has it that before The Moes came to be, hockey was boring.  Yeah, it was GOOD... but undoubtedly boring.

'The 16 Guys Named...' theme was suggested by a player named Stephen Thorne. After some debate and input, Ken Yip-Chuck  suggested that the name be 'The 16 Guys Named Moe' as people could be very creative with their Moe names. The team's motto became something like, "If we're going to stink the joint out, we may as well have fun doing it!"

In addition to having a Moe name stitched on to the back of their jersey, everyone was also named an Assistant Captain -- with the exception, of course, of their Captain who was picked in typical Moe

style... by pinning the roster on to a board and throwing a dart!  Voila!  The Moes were born!

The Moes' inaugural squad in the Winter of 1997 consisted of several first-timers, a handful of convicted felons, a guy that couldn't bend over far enough to tie his laces... and the man that would keep their losses respectable that first season - their goalie, Moe Puck.  Needless to say, The Moes finished dead last that season, but had some fun in the process.

The next season saw a revamped Moes team.  New team uniforms were on the menu for this team as they went from the ASHL issued all-orange to a leaner and meaner black and white with orange trim.  Their roster went through some changes as well as The Moes decided to submit their own team that year.  Most of the original Moes returned and players that moved on were replaced by friends that wanted to experience the Moe legacy.

In the Summer of 2000, The Moes completed their Cinderella story by winning their first of hopefully many ASHL Division Championships!
