All About our Triplets

All About our Triplets & other Multiple Births
Love doesn't divide....It MULTIPLIES!

So many good things come in threes,
Like Musketeers and ABC's.
But triplets are the best of all
From little ones to those quite tall.
And from the time such life begins,
It's extra laughter, triple grins.
With joys and mischiefs multiplied
And two defenders by each side.
So much alike, forever linked,
And yet they're also quite distinct.
They share a birthday and a name,
But moods and tempers aren't the same.
From days of youth till life is done,
It's one for all and all for one.
God made us novel and precise,
But special folks -- He made them thrice!

Things we are tired of hearing...

You must have your hands full!
Yes, but I'd rather have them full than empty!

Triple Trouble!
No - Triple Blessing!!!

Are they identical?
Uuummm... two boys and a girl...

Better you than me.
Boy- you're not kidding!

Did you use drugs?
Yes - Daddy took Viagra.
Why, do you want some?

You had them really close together didn't you
(thinking Erin is a singleton)

Yes, about 3 minutes!

How close together are they?
see above

I bet you need a lot of help.
Do you need help raising your kids?

I could never do it.
That's probably why you don't have multiples.

You aren't planning to have any more are you?
Why?
We're still 1 short of a basketball team
and 2 short of a hockey line.

When do you sleep?
At night - just like you.

How do you tell them apart?
We have their names tatooed on their bums.

Who's idea was this?
Gods!

I can't believe you go out with them
They aren't exactly old enough to stay home alone yet.

Why aren't they always dressed the same?
They are siblings - not clones.

Things we don't hear enough of...

Boy are you lucky!

What a beautiful family!

You must be great parents!

You guys look great and so well rested!

The babies are lucky to have such a great big sister.

Did you know that...
  • Worldwide there are at least 125 million living multiples.
  • Triplets and Higher order Multiples (HOM) are called Super Twins
  • Did you know that up to 22 percent of twins are left-handed? In the non-twin population the number is just under 10 percent.
  • The United States has one of the highest rates of multiples, while Japan has one of the lowest with multiple births occurring one in 120 births.
  • Twins are either fraternal or identical. Fraternal twins share the same womb, but come from different ovum. They are as alike as any pair of siblings. On the other hand, identical twins come from the same fertilized ovum and consequently share the same genetic makeup.
  • The average weight of a singleton newborn is 7 lbs. 6 oz., but the average weight of a triplet newborn is 3 lbs. 12 oz.
  • Genetic factors do not have much, if any, affect on the incidence of identical twins. Identical twins do not run in families.
  • Among triplet pregnancies the rate of premature labor (before 32.7) wks. is 68% in 1991 and 2000.
  • in 2000 approximately 73% of Multiple Mothers Breastfed their babies. (pumping/expressing included in this average) Average was for 3.1 months.
Incredible fact: According to the Guinness Book of Records, a women Leontina Albina, in the country of Chile, gave birth to the last of her 55 children in 1981. Her offspring included five sets of triplets (all boys).
TYPES OF TRIPLETS

Triplets can result from a single fertilized egg that splits three ways to produce three identical individuals (the equivalent of identical twins). They would look the same and all be the same sex. They would be identical triplets, but this is very rare. Most often the mother produces three separate eggs at ovulation, which are then fertilized and become three un-alike individuals. This would be the equivalent of fraternal twins.

Another combination of triplets could result from the mother producing two eggs that are fertilized, and then one of those eggs proceeds to divide in two to produce two identical individuals. This would result in triplets in whom two are identical and the third is a fraternal to the others. You could have two identical girls and a boy, or two identical boys and a girl, or all the same sex, with two being identical

Our triplets came from 3 individual eggs - they are not identical.
