StarBand is America's first
consumer true two-way, always-on high-speed satellite Internet
service. With no special phone lines or cable modems required, StarBand
service is the logical solution for millions of people across the
continental United States who have been unable to get broadband Internet
service. |
| StarBand means
high-speed Internet service without the constraints and congestion of
land-based cable or telephone networks. It's the next
Internet experience and it's available NOW. "If you can see
the southern sky, you can enjoy StarBand" It's wider than
narrowband, bigger than broadband - it's StarBand ! |
| StarBand uses a single
satellite dish antenna for receiving AND for sending information - no
telephone connection is needed. Plus, the StarBand antenna can
accommodate both the Internet and EchoStar's DISH Network satellite TV
programming, so StarBand's service can bring the Internet and hundreds
of channels of television into your home, all through one single dish
antenna. Inside your house, the StarBand system consists of
a "satellite modem" that attaches to
your home PC through the USB port. |
| StarBand service features
"always-on" Internet access, with no wait to reconnect every
time you want to surf the Web or check e-mail. You'll stay
connected to the Internet via a high-speed link as long as your computer
is on. |
| The StarBand
service can download content up to 10 times faster than the fastest
dial-up service. StarBand consumers can expect download speeds up to 500
kbps and upload speeds up to 150 kbps. And your speed can burst even
higher depending on when you are on line. However, you may
experience slower speeds during peak hours which are typically weekday
evenings. StarBand's goal is to provide 150 kbps download speeds
and upload speeds of 50 kbps during the very busiest hours on the net
(when you otherwise may not even be able to get on- line with a dial-up
connection !). StarBand, like DSL and cable
modems, provides an always-on, high-speed connection to the
Internet. However, unlike DSL and cable modem services, which are
limited in availability, StarBand service is available virtually
everywhere in the continental US - even in remote areas - over
satellite NOW
! |
| As a StarBand subscriber
you will also have the opportunity to be a part of a unique satellite
multicast network. This means that in the future, you will be able
to direct your PC to receive channels of high-quality content from
StarBand's top entertainment and information partners, including MP3
files, software downloads, subscription content and more. |
 |
| The StarBand Internet
service is currently being provided over one of two different
satellites, depending on your location : Either the GE-4 satellite
located at 101 degrees W.L. or the Telstar 7 satellite located at 129
degrees W.L. In addition, if you purchase a combined
StarBand / DISH Network system, the dish antenna will also receive DISH
Network 500 programming from EchoStar satellites located at 110 and 119
degrees W.L. |
