One of my step-son's is stationed at Eielson. This site is a great source of information on the Interior of Alaska. Great Links.

The State of Alaska Ferry System. Has scheduling and pricing sections. Ferries can be crowded, if not full for a lot of summer. Book well in advance if travelling May-Early October.

It lists Freshwater and Saltwater Fish Run/Availability Charts. Shows when fishing is good. You can link back to the ADFG Homepage from this site as well for more fishing and hunting information.
Public Use Cabins
Tongass Nat. Forest
There are numerous cabins around this area. Most are accessible by boat, although some require a boat ride, and a hike. The summer months get booked early. These are popular sites, they are great for killing a little time. Water Taxi service available locally.
A locally operated sea taxi service. Great for being dropped at Public Use Cabins, Bicycle/Kayak exploration, and Animal viewing.
