pa: correct spelling para. To, for.

padre: father

pampas: pampa: plains in quichua language, the language of incas, the indians of the mountains. So as Spanish got many quichua words the indians of the plains were also called pampas. Yet pampa indians didn´t called themselves pampas, it was a foreign word for them. By the time of independence quichua indians were part of the country and pampa indians were outside.

payada: a verbal duel in wich one makes a question and the other answers, shifting between them, singing always in rhymed verse, usually accompanied by a guitar. Is amazing how gauchos liked payadas, they enjoyed them much more than any riding show or any kind of perfomance. These solitary men give great importance to words as they are the best sign of mankind. Payadas are now part of the past but gauchos still appreciate good speech and deep thought.

pialador: pialar: pull the lassoo, truss up. When branding one gaucho throws the lasso and other help pulling the rope, throwing it, trussing it up and stamping the hot iron on it.

picardía: cunning. The word picardía sometimes conveys sympathy, conversely the word ladino is always used conveying dissaproval.

pico: beak. Pejorative: mouth

pitan: verb (pitar) they smoke. Usual word in Spanish : fumar
