The soup is the white wash after the wave has broken. The face of a wave is the vertical unbroken part. The lip is the pitching crest of the wave. the tube portion of the wave is made by the wave finally breaking and developing a tube. What is a Rip Current? Basically, a rip is a body of water moving out to sea. How Do I Escape from a Rip Current? The most important thing to remember is if you are caught in a rip, DON'T PANIC. You should attempt to swim parallel to the shore, with the lateral current, and then swim toward the shore. Tides are the raising and lowering of the sea level and play a important roll on the shape of the wave. Before hitting the waves there are a few things YOU must do. Surfing is a very demanding and enduring sport. You must be in physically fit condition to paddle out in a knarly 10 foot face set. Also one main thing you may have forgotten about is that you have to be a good swimmer. Swimming and surfing in the ocean is not a trip to the local pool. The surfboard is not to be used as a floating device, you must know how to swim. When you are at the beach looking out at the breaking surf, a lot of surfers take this time to stretch their bodys and limber up the muscels, Preparing themselves both physically and mentally before a surfing session.
