There are a few ingredients you want to find in a beach break when your hitting the water for the first time. A beach with a sandy level bottom and NO rocks. Very small mellow waves which when they break, forming what we call The Soup. This white water is what your going to start surfing in. And most important, surf on a beach that has NO Crowds or as far away from them as possible. Remember Do-Not be a Barney and surf next to good surfers. When you have found your beach break, watch and observe the ocean how and where the wave is breaking. To the left or right. Now its time to enter the water. Its very important to keep the board to the side of your body. If a wave was to break and you have your board in front of you, the wave will pick the board up and SLAM it into you. And it hurts. To avoid this, paddle out around the breaking wave. Once you have made it out in the water. Learn how to sit on your board and get comfortable with it. Once this is achieved start looking for The Soup. You want to position yourself in front of it with your board perpendicular to the broken wave. Paddle with the wave and The soup will push you and your board towards the beach. For the first few times ride the board on your stomach getting a feel for it. If you happen to wipeout ALWAYS keep your hands over your head protecting it so that the board doesnt hit it.
