Name : Sarah Michelle Gellar
Born : April 14th 1977 Birth Place : New York Even as a child , Sarah was a bubbly , fun and intelligent young woman . It was her out going , "I can do it if I try " kind of attitude that got her noticed . It was while eating out at a restaurant with her friends ( and their mother ) that she was "discovered" . Sarah was only 4 years old at this time , little did she know that a female agent was observing her . Finally the woman approached Sarah and asked her if she would like to be on TV . Sarah immediately turned to the agent and stated her name , phone , parent's name and address . Sarah had never had any acting experience before . When she went home and told her Mother that she was going to be on TV , her mother at first thought it was a prank . Until she got a call about setting an audition up . The next day Sarah and her mother went to that audition . The movie was named An Invasion of Privacy , Sarah would audition for the role of the star's daughter ....... she got the part . The word soon spread about the irresistible young Sarah and she became a spokesperson for Burger King in a series of commercial's that aired in 1981. Sarah then appeared in a movie called , Over the Brooklyn Bridge. In 1986 Sarah was in an episode of Spencer for Hire and in the same year , theater in Horton Foote's , The widow Claire . Then it became time for Sarah to move up into Junior High , she enrolled in Columbia preparatory school in New York . Soon Sarah would realize that it would be difficult for her to fit in , as many of the student's came from wealthy families and Sarah had a more modest income , her mother was a teacher. "Many of the student's were used to having everything handed to them on a silver platter , everything I got I worked hard for and got on my own ." - Sarah (qtd in Collymore) As many kid's know , junior high age can be very cruel . Because the other kid's wouldn't hang around with her , Sarah became a loner . They were most likely jealous of Sarah's talent and success . They punished her for being famous by constantly harassing her at school . So Sarah put more effort into her acting . In 1988 Sarah had a role in the movie funny farm , in 1989 Sarah was in a feature film called High Stake's and in that same year hosted a talk show . Sarah was so busy that she had a pager so her mother would know where she was . Sarah is close to her mother , Rosellen . "My mother is not living vigorously through me .....It has always been my choice to act . If at any time I wanted to give it up , she would be behind me 100% ." Sarah adds , "My mom has always been behind me and we are very close ." - Sarah (qtd in Collymore) Sarah is reluctant to talk about her natural father . Her parents divorced when she was young . However , Sarah has not grown up fatherless . Her mother remarried in the early 1990's Sarah say's that her stepfather has supported her in all her achievement's . " My stepfather always say's that when he sees how many thing's I handle in a day , he'd be willing to hire a young person like me because now he sees what an incredible thing it is to see kid's so focused and how much they have to offer ."(proudly stated) - Sarah (qtd in The Rush) Because the School Sarah was enrolled in was a regular private school , the other kid's simply couldn't identify with her lifestyle at all . Sarah may have had similar problem's to Buffy in Junior High School , simply because she was misunderstood Sarah was made to feel ashamed of her accomplishment's and was never proud of what she did . "I never liked to talk about my acting , because if I did I was branded as a snob and if I didn't I was still a snob . I would cry because I didn't understand why people didn't like me". - Sarah (qtd in Collymore) Sarah's mother transferred her to the professional children's school in Manhattan . Immediately there was a difference in how Sarah was treated , because the other student's there worked just like Sarah did . Sarah made friend's there and finally felt as though people understood her . It was now that Sarah was acting , going to school , taking figure skating lesson's and learning Tae kwon do . Sarah had studied martial art's for 4 years and at the time she was 2 belt's away from her black belt . Sarah even placed fourth in a competition." I would get up in the morning , go to the ice rink , then go to school , then go to auditions , then go to tae kwon do . I was cracking " . - Sarah (qtd in Martinez) Sarah's mother saw that she was overworked and told her it was time to make a choice . Sarah could do 2 thing's at once , no more . Sarah chose School and Acting . Sarah graduated High School with a 4.0 grade point average after only 2 and a half years . Sarah's career in acting also launched , setting up what would follow . In 1991 Sarah was cast in a move called , A woman named Jackie . Sarah would play the younger version of Jackie . In 1992 Sarah was in a Neil Simon play , Jake's women. Then Sarah went on to play Sydney Orion Rutledge in the teen soap , Swan's crossing . It was in 1993 that Sarah got the part of Kendall Hart in the soap All my children . In 1994 Sarah was nominated for an award for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress In A Day Time Drama Series . Then came Buffy . Sarah went for an audition , they saw her pale skin and long dark hair and asked her to read for Cordelia . They thought that Sarah would be perfect for that role , having done a convincing job in a similar role as Kendall Hart . Sarah did the audition , but pleaded that they let her try reading Buffy . Sarah did .......... Sarah got it . (YEAHY) Sarah then starred in the movie I know what you did last summer . Followed by Scream 2 and Cruel Intentions . Sarah also hosted Saturday Night Live in 1998 . Sarah won a Blockbuster award on March 10th 1998 for favorite Supporting Actress in a Horror movie for I know what you did last summer . Sarah also features in the movie Small Soldier's , as the voice of a Gwendy doll . Sarah also has modeled for back to school fashion's on the Regis and Kathylee show . Things have changed for Sarah . She has bought her first house , first car and other thing's ...... including her much talked about tattoos . Not to mention being married to I know what you did last summer co - star Freddie Prinze Jr ! |
