Basic Small Engine Maintenance
Summary:
5. Fresh Pull Cord.

Before running a small engine for the first time, or for the first time in a season, check the pull-cord and handle used to start the engine.

! Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug !

Check the handle for cracks or tears:

  • Slowly pull the cord and observe for wear.

If the handle is defective or the cord is frayed or worn it may snap leaving you off balance with a running engine!

Replace any worn cord or handle, or have your small engine shop replace it for you.
