| SNAP, is the abbreviated form of the organization’s name Sisters Need A Place, and refers to the need of the Muslim community to secure a safe Islamically appropriate place within our communities’ social organization for Muslim women, whether they are victims of violence, poverty or some other crisis, or simply women wishing to expand their knowledge and skills for the betterment of themselves or their families. The organization came into being following the grassroots activity of Muslim sisters from South Dakota & Minnesota coming together to establish the Minnesota Muslim Women’s Network and the South Dakota Muslim Women’s Network. During one of these early meetings in the fall of 2000 in St. Paul, Minnesota the discussion relating to the need for an organization that could address the many cases of emergency need amongst the growing Muslim community was discusses. As a result, it was decided by several present that it was time that an organization was set up addressing women in need. Since then volunteers have been working with Muslim Women in Minnesota and surrounding states to give them assistance. In ____ SNAP obtained federal non-profit status and donations can now be tax exempt, alhumdulillah, for those within the United States. |

SNAP seeks to assist Muslim families by utilizing various community programs and resources, but within the guidelines of the Quran and Sunnah. Our organization’s work is administered by a board of directors, who meet several times each year. The general operations of the organization are oversaw by the executive director, the finance director, volunteer director and the volunteer staff. |
