We left off at getting home at 6:30am. I slept for about 45 minutes, got up, dressed, and moved my car to its spot at a friend's apartment building (JMU's parking is not one of its highlights). When I came home, I checked my email...Jordan wrote me! We left too early and missed out on a lot of action. Damn! My only thoughts after reading her email was, "I want to be Jordan when I grow up." After reading that and her mention about going to the show for Thursday night (that would be 12.2), I just wanted to go back up there even more. Oh, well. I went back to sleep and woke up around 12:30pm (totally missing all my classes for the day). After talking with Kelly and Laura, lunching with Natalie, and weighing the decision to go back to NYC, at 2pm I decided to go after Amanda said she wouldn't mind heading to NYC for a night, regardless of the band. Laura was a definite as well. Atasi was in class at the time... This left one more person to go with us: Jes. from Jes: "4:22pm. What the frap?! We are totally on our way to NYC to see Moxy. No, you aren't reading my version of yesterday, this is a completely new version. Okay, let me start from the beginning. So, I'm lying i bed sleeping and I wake up to hear people outside my door. I blink a few times as the door opens. I expected Atasi and Stiney since they hardly ever knock, so you can imagine my surprise to see Laura. Then you can imagine my even more surprise to see Laura look around and then go, 'Noone's in here!' I was like, uhm-hi? So, I somehow got her attention and she realized that I was, in fact, about 3 ft away from her. So, she comes in, follwed by Amy. They're all, 'You wanna go to NYC?' and I'm all, 'You're on crack' (oh, wait, I only thought that and never said that out loud). So, I'm all, 'No!' and finally they went away. At this point, it's 2 pm and I'm pissed because Mrs. Green's is closed and I missed lunch. So I amde ramen noodles at 2:45pm so I can eat them during General Hospital and then double punch tonight. Now you may be wondering--'What the frap does Ramen Noodles and General Hospital have to do with NYC and Moxy Fruvous?' and the answer is NOTHING! Gimme a break here, people! I'm a frapping English major and creative writing minor! If I want to write a lot about minor details, I WILL! If you wanted a short, analytical report of the events leadingup to me being in the Neon with Amy, Laura, and Amanda, you should have consulted a math major! Can I continue now?!? God, you people are infuriating. So I get into bed with my book and a box of Teddy Grahams (honey flavor) and I'm reading happily when there's a knock on the door. I yell for them to come in and (surprise, surprise) it's Amy and Laura. They (very pitifully) beg me again to come. So I'm going over the pro's and con's in my head and finally (I don't know why) I say yes and we all run to shower."
Thank you, Jes, for that great version of what happend. :-) We're on the road around 4:15 pm or something like that. About 20 minutes down the road, I realized that I had my noraml meeting time with my counselor that day at 5 or something. So, we puled over and I called to cancel. Ya, I know, I'm a bad patient (really bad if you consider the fact that I'm a PSYC major). Back on the road...
A trip that is supposed to take 6 hours took us only 4 thanks to Amanda's driving skills. I was in the front seat...which isn't good considering the way I get... Anywho, same problem with that turn before the Holland Tunnel. Yes, we also got lost again. What else is new? I hated the roads in NYC.
We got to the club yet again at 8:30pm. We even parked on the same road. Deja-vous? Probably not. As soon as we get inside, we had a pit stop, then I went for the bar. I needed a beer that bad. And, since I was there, I figured to pick one up for Dave. Aren't I nice? Ya, I know you're jealous of my skills. Jordan came up to us before we headed in to catch the openers. She had the copy of the Indy tape for me! I had emailed her real quick before leaving...and she had the tape all ready. This chick isn't all that bad. :-) Jordan went to her spot stage Jian and we head for cool places stage Dave.
As always, I sent someonel else to do my dirty work. Laura put the beer for Dave on the stage along with a note...can't remember what it said...oh, wait, it said: "Dave~ You rock my world." Aw yeah.
The concert: tons of fan. Ranks as #2 of best Fruvous performances that I've seen (#1 being the 9:30 club show in November). Check out the Setlist! Really good banter as well that you can check out at the reviews page...
After the show, we chatted a bit with Jordan again. This time, we decided to hang around a little longer so we wouldn't miss any fun. :-) I did offer Jordan a ride to Toronto for FruCon III (oh lordy!). We got Murray, Jian, and Dave's autographs. Jian gave jes a hug--which totally made her night. :-) We waited a really long time for Dave to come out. Actually, we had to ask for him to come out. He did, though...but de didn't have much of a voice cause he was getting sick [1]. Aw puddin! (as Jordan would put it). He thanked me for the beer and signed our posters. Such a nice guy!
We left after that. We made yet another Fru-convert: Amanda. She said it was one of the best shows she's ever been to (which is a lot coming from her). So, Fru-convert count as of this night: 6! Rock on!
Couple side notes to this story: 1. On both nights of the concerts, we ran the two blocks from the car to the club without any coats or anything. New York City in December is pretty cold, but we didn't want to have to fumble around with our coats and stuff while inside the venue. After these two days, Laura went to DC and spent the weekend running around there. Sadly, the following week Laura came down with pneumonia and had to be hospitalized for a couple of days. I think we all learned our lessons there. 2. At the second Westbeth show, Jordan's friend, Robbie, was there. He was being completely anti-social...sitting at the bar while we sat at a table. It wouldn't be until the end of April that I got the chance to become better acquainted with him.
[1] Turns out that Dave became really sick and got the rest of the crew sick as well, considering their close living quarters. They had to cancel a show later in December because of this. :-( We all felt really bad for them. |
