FruCon II
the fun continues...

After FruCon, we returned to the purple pimp mobile. I slept while Vick did some studying. An hour later, we set out to walk to Lee's Palace. We discovered the place was over 20 blocks away (or something like that) and it was freezing and windy.

Side Note: I forgot to mention that this trip came close to not happening at all. At the beginning of the week I lost my voice and was ill. Vickie and I agreed that if I wasn't feeling better by Friday we wouldn't go. Being the stubborn person I am, I said taht I was fine for the trip. I barely had a voice, was continually coughing, and hardly felt all that well. There was no way I was going to pass up a chance to go to Canada. It just wouldn't be right.

Back to Toronto: We decided that it would be crazy if we attempted to walk to Lee's Palace...plus it wasn't good for my health. We grabbed a Taxi (cause we didn't know about the metro) and were at Lee's Palace in no time. The line was already wrappipng around the corner, so we hopped in line. Talking with the people around us, we told our story of our trip to the great north and made friends with this one chick from Vermont. She had a facke ID and wasn't let into the club the night before. I must give her some points for trying to get in again. Her attempts failed, though.

Once inside, we checked our coats then headed for the stage. And again, we got great spots stage Dave. I didn't enjoy the opener very well and decided to save all the energy I had left for the main part of the trip, the basis for being there: Moxy Fruvous. The concert was fun. I was glad to see that Vickie was having a good time. That was all that mattered, really. I did begin to feel worse toward the end of the concert, which totoally is nobody's fault but my own. We hadn't been eating any normal food and so my body was not too happy: fighting off a sickness mixed with hardly any sleep and poor food. Not a good combination. We headed for a pub that was just down the street. I got some water and we ordered nachos. I know...not exactly healthy. I was just relieved that we were in a warm place and getting some kind of food.

After eating for a bit, we decided to get a taxi to drop us at the parking deck my car was in. We were on the road at 2am and figured we'd be back in the 'burg by 2pm...plenty of time for us to rest before our staff meeting Sunday night.

While at a stoplight, this car pulls up to us and the driver rolls down his window so I do the same. He asks if we were really from Virginia (I had VA plates then cause we didn't move to FL until August of 99). We told him we were and he asked why we were in Toronto. All the guys (three total) couldn't believe that we had driving from Virginia just to see Moxy Fruvous. (According to them, they are the equivalent of a college band in Toronto.) Well, ya, that is crazy if you put any amount of thought to it. Anyways, so they asked if we wanted to go to a pub. We said no thanks since we were on our way home. (Mind you I'm doing most of the conversating from my car and I barely have a voice...I'm surprised he could understand me!) So, the guys offer to buy us some coffee. Off we go to the nearest CoffeeTime. They buy us coffee and invite us back to their place. We say OK.

DISCLAIMER: Yes, Vickie and I were not thinking. We were stupid to go to a house with three strange guys, not knowing the area or anything. In fact, this entire trip was not planned correctly. Always Always Always tell as many people as possible where you are going and how long you will be gone just in case. Thanks!

Back at the guys' place we sit around and watch TV. We mostly watched hockey and Much Music and talked about the US and Canada. Canadians think Americans are well represented on Jerry Springer. Apparently the US is just a huge white trash breeding ground. In summary, Canada is much better than the US.

At 4am we decide to head on out...the guys walked us to my car and this one that was smitten with me gave me his hat. Then we were off. Back on the QEW, then stateside, down I-81, and back in the 'burg at 4pm. After a badly needed shower, a brief nap, and some quality time with my then boyfriend, I felt refreshed and rejuvenated for our staff meeting.

I wish I had gone along with Vickie's idea to stay over in Toronto, skip out on the staff meeting, and attend Sunday night's concert, though. But, it was an awesome time just the same. :-)
