I'm so excited about writing this because I actually have the help of our trusty Teavel Journal (now, Trave A) to aid in memory. Let's see...
This concert was my fourth Moxy Fruvous concert and I was ready for it. The entire day I was (literally) boucing off the walls out of pure excitement. In fact, I was the happiest taht I had been for quite a while. Plus, the fact that Kelly, Atasi, and Jes wanted to go to the concert added to my mood. I was really glad that they wanted to give a Fruvous concert a try.
After a long stop at the Godwin bus stop's ATM (and an interesting discussion about tag-teaming with the ATM), we were on the road by 6pm. On the way there, we listened to some Moxy and talked and stuff. I warned the girls that about some of the FruHeads...just so they'd be prepared for the much adoration that is given to the guys. :-) When we arrived, we hopped in line and chatted a while with the cool people standing behind us. All the while Jes and I searched the area for Vickie and Jes's friend, Brett [1].
Once inside, we got our spots stage Dave, one row from the front. In front of us were Lawrence, Jennifer, Valerie, and Amanda. I must say that on the night of the concert, what Valerie was talking about kinda pissed me off, but I didn't know the full extent of the conversation. Now that I'm a bit wiser to the situation, I think Val's pretty awesome. :-)
Ok, so back to the concert....
The opener wasn't all that great in my opinion. The lady had big hair. The sax player was pretty chills. But, in all, I wasn't too impressed. There was this one kid that was semi in the middle of our group. He had to have been like 11 years old or something. He really didn't bother us...until Kelly leaned over and said that he has been staring at my chest practically the entire time he had been standing there. I was kinda embarassed/uncomfortable/entermused about it. I just decided to try and ignore it--prepubescent boys will be prepubescent boys. :-)
Vickie miraculously foudn me during the opener. I was so happy to see her. We talked and talked...catching up and waving to her boy Joel (they were positioned up in the balcony). Jennifer did turn around to ask us to be quiet since she couldn't hear the opener. That didn't bother me much, but when she decided to talk non-stop during Fruvous I kinda got peeved. Anyways, that kinda put a damper on our conversation, so Vickie left to join Joel and we awaited Fruvous.
The concert itself was brilliant as always. Exactly what I need to get to the level I needed to be at...know what I'm saying? It was a wonderfully long concert, and despite my aching feet, I wanted it to last all night.
The only really interesting story that I have from the concert concerns a letter...a letter for Dave...a letter for Dave written by Jes... from Atasi: "So we wrote this letter to the boys and it basically told them about our NY trip and asked if they could say Amy's name or something like that. So Jes had the note and she found a good time to hand it to Dave. We weren't sure if he was gonna take it at first but we realized he was fixing his guitar. He kind of gave Jes a look that he was going to take it in a sec. So he took the note and put it in his pocket and we were like 'Damn! He's not going to read it!' But he took it out and starts to read it and we're all like Hell Ya! And Amy is pretty much clueless because we didn't tell her. So they get ready for the next song and Dave mentions us in a roundabout way. He was like 'there are apparently these girls that tried to get into the show...' or something like that, I really can't remember." from Jes: "Dave was also very cool. I'm glad we wrote the letter. I was nervous at first that he wasn't going to take it from me, but he gave me the 'just a second' look as he fixed his guitar and then he took it...and read it...and mentioned us on stage!!! Score! Amy almost killed us while he was reading it. I just jumped up and down going 'He's reading our letter! He's reading our letter!'" As for me, I was...oh, I don't know... I could've killed Jes for doing all of that. But, then again, they're all pretty awesome friends to try and get Dave to mention my name. They had all seen the state I had been in and all if Dave had said my name..well, it would have been awesome. They rock for trying, though. I do remember Dave saying that he hoped that we at least grabbed a bagel while in the city. I was like "Damn! We should've gotten bagels!" oh, well...I can do that the next time I'm in NYC (I still haven't gotten a bagel up there).
After the concert, we met up with Jes's friend, Brett, and all his crew from UofR. They gathered in a circle and sang The Drinking Song. It was beautiful. We were all standing around waiting for the guys to come out, but they never did. After a while the staff asked us to leave. So, it was off to Kelly's place.
Kelly's house is so perfect. We were all scared to touch anything out of fear of dirtying the furniture. Her mom gave up her bed so we could sleep in it (even though we protested). So, Atasi and I slept in Kelly's mom's bed while Jes and Kelly slept in Kelly's room. When we woke up on Sunday morning, there was this wonderful breakfast waiting for us: French toast, powdered sugar, juice, fruit cups (in actual little glass dishes!), orange slices, and angel food muffins. It was just all so wonderful.
The entire weekend couldn't have been better. I found myself anxious for the next Fruvous show: December 1 at the Westbeth in NYC.
[1] Ok, so Brett is this really cool friend of Jes's. They went to school together in Connecticutt and as luck would have it, they both came to Virginia for college. Brett goes to the University of Richmond in Richmond, VA. He was introduced to Moxy Fruvous through his a capella group. They sing Fruvous songs and go to the concerts. The 9:30 Club concert was Brett's first concert as well. :-) |
