| is the number ZERO something tangible that really exists, or is it just convenient for our number system? for example: the number 10 means ten units, or ten items. it is an amount. the zero is just a place holder, and it doesn�t affect the fact that there are ten items. But what about ZERO, by itself? is it a state of numerical nothingness, or is it a place holder? is it a place holder that has potential to hold the number one (or aggregates of the number one, say two, for example? if i say, �i have NOTHING, � am i saying that i am holding something that doesn�t exist, or am i saying that I am lacking something, or are these conditions the same? maybe the word NOTHING means NO THING which is the absence of material. NOTHING is a space�a place holder�like ZERO. ZERO and NOTHINGNESS have the potential to contain quantities and materials, but at certain moments in time, they are �empty� of anything tangible to see, touch, or conceptualize. If ZERO and NOTHINGNESS are states of potentiality, then they have the ability to be �containers� in the future. is the potential in itself a �SOMETHINGNESS?� maybe not a material something, or an abstract representation of material, but maybe a significant state in its own realm. no one can really see or touch the FUTURE, but it is there. the FUTURE is a sort of container for events that have different likelihoods of probability. for example, it may be highly probable that it will rain tomorrow, but the chances of sunny weather still exist, and neither weather condition may be experienced until today passes and tomorrow comes. what is the ZERO? ZERO is a future state. ZERO can become a new number by adding items to a designated pile of ten. the FUTURE can become present experience realized by �adding� new events to life. And like ZERO, the FUTURE is not tangible at the moment, but the potentiality of being, existing, counting new items in the pile, etc., is there. This may be the key to understanding the cosmos, right down to your own backyard. |
