Personal Bill of Human Rights

  • I have the right to ask for what I want or need in life.

  • I have the right to say 'no' to requests or demands I can't meet, don't want, are unsafe, or that violate my values or religious beliefs including the right to decline all acts of unwanted or unsolicited sexual acts even within a relationship.

  • I have the right to express all my feelings, negative and positive, without threats or fears of physical retaliation.

  • I have the right to change my mind.

  • I have the right to make mistakes and not have to be perfect in the eyes of others.

  • I have the right to follow my own values and standards providing they do not cause harm to others.

  • I have the right to determine my own priorities.

  • I have the right not to be made to feel responsible for another person's behaviours, actions, feelings, or problems if I was not a contributing factor.

  • I have the right to expect honesty from others within a relationship based on my honesty with them.

  • I have the right to be able to verbally express anger at someone I love without fear of a physical attack.

  • I have the right to be uniquely myself.

 

  • I have the right to feel scared and say "I am afraid".

  • I have the right to self esteem, self worth, and personal choices.

  • I have the right to make decisions based on my feelings, emotions, fears, and when in need to protect myself and my children.

  • I have the right to my own needs for personal space and time.

  • I have the right to maintain financial security and independence without it being taken from me.

  • I have the right to live my own life free of fear, intimidation, threats, and a controlled and abusive environment.

  • I have the right to leave a relationship in which I am no longer happy or safe.

  • I have the right to be happy and secure.

  • I have the right to live in an non abusive environment as do my children.

  • I have the right to have friends and be comfortable amongst loved ones.

  • I have the right to change, learn and grow.

  • I have the right to be respected for personal choices and decisions.

  • I have a right that my children not be used as pawns in a faltering relationship nor used as a means of controlling me.

  • I have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

  • I have the right to exercise my rights.
