Fox Network / O.J. SimpsonI commend you for your action on boycotting all venues that will promote the book and television interview of O.J. Simpson. I support your endeavors and agree that anyone that would publisher or purchase the book and those that air and watch the program all for all intents and purposes endorsing and condoning domestic violence and the homicides of an innocent persons. I concur that this man is exploiting his ability to 'get away with murder" and is blatantly mocking the judiciary system that allowed the jury to absolve him from the murder. Furthermore, he is taunting the families of both Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman with the endorsement of the publisher and Fox Network. Tragically, Mr. Simpson is telling his children that he has no conscience or respect for their deceased mother and is willing to promote his ''if he did it' book for monetary gain. As this is happening in the U.S. and based on your ability to bring this to the attention of the media, hopefully it should bring pressure on the lawmakers to find a loop-hole in the law that will be able to bring Mr. Simpson before the courts on his 'hypothetical' confession. I will be posing your letter and my response onto my website - www.geocities.com/sis_selfhelp. As well as forwarding it to my many colleagues in the field of speaking out against domestic violence. It is also my intent to write letters to the head-offices of all major our retail book stores encouraging them not to sell the book. Thank you for taking such a pro-active approach. Barbara Mills
November 16, 2006 Domestic Violence Expert Calls Fox’s Upcoming O.J. Simpson Special “Beneath Contempt,” Urges Network, Advertisers, Viewers to Reject It “Disgust and revulsion are the only possible reactions to the news that the Fox Network is planning a special in which O.J. Simpson will talk about how he would have murdered his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman, ‘if he did it.’ Two families suffered an unimaginable loss 12 years ago, and two children lost their mother. Now those children will see their father discuss or recreate the crime for entertainment and profit. It is beneath contempt. We urge Fox to reconsider its decision to air this program. Affiliates should refuse to carry it, if the network proceeds with its plans. Advertisers should refuse to support it. Viewers should refuse to watch. And no responsible person should purchase the book on which it is based. Violence against women is a costly and devastating problem in the U.S. On average, three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends each day and nearly 500 females over age 12 are victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault. We must stop treating violence as entertainment and instead redouble our efforts to stop it. A decade ago, a mother of two and a vital young man were brutally murdered. It’s past time to stop exploiting this tragedy and instead put our energies into keeping women and children safe.” # # # # The Family Violence Prevention Fund works to end violence against women and children around the world, because every person has the right to live free of violence.
