Islamic Scriptures

Islamic Scriptures

Islamic scripture consists of two types: the Qur'an and the Sunnah also called Hadith. The Qur'an, according to Muslim belief, was revealed to Muhammad through angel Gabriel by God over a 23 year period of his prophetic life. It consists of 114 surahs (chapters-crude translation in English) and 6666 verses. Hadith consists of the sayings, actions and approvals of prophet Muhammad besides the Qur'an regarding religious matters.
