Salt Lake City

25th May 2001 Friday

Day In Brief:Temple SquareCaroline's B'day!

Lodgings: Salt Lake City Centre Travelodge Hotel

Salt Lake City is towered over by the mountains of the Wasatch Front. Although home to 160,000 citizens, Salt Lake City is actually home to a further 600,000 living in the suburban areas ranged along the mountains. Around seventy percent of the popultation are Mormons, and Salt Lake City remains the worldwide headquarters of the Mormon Church.

"After having been to San Francisco and Las Vegas, Salt Lake City is the third city on our route. Found Salt Lake City to be very well organised and structured in that the streets are pretty much planned in the form of a grid with 2 way streets. No longer will we get lost in the city, just because of the one way streets which will sometimes obstruct us from heading towards our destination. Neither do we get trapped in traffic jams in the city as well :)

The only slightly negative thing about Salt Lake is that the weather is really hot. Walking along the streets in the daytime can be rather ardous as the sun shines mercilessly down on us, burning our hands and necks i.e. the areas that are not covered by clothes. The only consolation is that, despite the hot, sizzling desert heat of Salt Lake City, we hardly perspire due to the drier climate. Guess this helped to make the heat slightly more bearable."

Temple Square

Located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, Temple Square is a beautifully landscaped 10 acre plot of land. The majestic 6 spired Mormon Church stands in the centre of Temple Square. A beautiful fountain and pool adorns the entrance of the Mormon Church.

A view of the Mormon Temple from the top of Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

The top of Joseph Smith Memorial Building offers a splendid view of the Salt Lake City skyline. In addition to that, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building is very beautifully designed and well furnished on its own, making it a pleasure to walk through the building itself. To enjoy the lovely ambience inspired within the building and the piano music that fills the corridors in the building.

Caroline's B'day !

Need I say more? We celebrated Caroline's B'day today! Though not in too big a fashion, but it still was a celebration anywayz! :)

After our walk round the splendid buildings and gardens of Temple Square, we went off for Italian dinner at Mr Z, on the request of our B'day Girl, who picked the restaurant from a very comprehensive restaurant guide that was provided by our motel.

Finally a picture of the 4 of us in "civilised" surroundings. See! We can look equally at home in a restaurant, climbing rocks or tramping on hiking trails ;p A pity u can't see the yummy food that we've got on the table! Authentic Italian Cuisine!

After our sumptous Italian dinner, and dessert of Tiramisu, complimentary of Mr Z's, since it was Caroline's B'day, we went on to watch the movie, SHREK!! I had a most enjoyable and entertaining time of cos, since animations are really my favourite when it comes to movies, spent my entire night laughing from the start of the movie till then end. Hope I didn't create too much of a din in the cinema ;p
If u're thinking that such a way of celebrating Caroline's B'day is too dismal...and questions like "where's the cake?" is swimming in your mind now......U're Right!

We're really not quite done with just her Birthday! How could just a dinner and movie satisfy us??
