Stanford University

Guess we didn't exactly have that much time to spare in Stanford itself, so we only managed to take a quick tour round Stanford to the "landmark" areas such as the Church, coupled with a short run-through of part of the campus on foot :p As there was some kind of celebration ongoing in campus itself, we got to walk through a bazaar and to view some rather innovative performance put up by the students ;)

My only photo taken at Stanford.

Afterthat, it was a mad and frantic dash to the train station to catch Caltrain so that we'll be back in SF in time to catch the ferry for our guided tour to Alcatraz.

Caltrain

Looking none the worse after our mad dash to catch the train!
Yo! We managed to do it! ;)

Alcatraz Island

On the ferry bound for Alcatraz Island.

We were brought on a guided tour of Alcatraz Island first, whereby we were regaled with a lot of stories of escapes from Alcatraz, and movies shot on Alcatraz or about Alcatraz. Interesting! Following which, we embarked on an audio tour of the cellhouse. For this tour, everyone was issued with an electronic device cum a set of headphones, from which instructions and narrations are provided as we move through the cells.

Behind Bars......

Can u see the gadgets that I'm equipped with for the cellhouse tour?

Hmm...doesn't seem to be that visible from the picture....hmm...

"Weather was very cold and windy on Alcatraz, which was even more chilly than in SF itself, guess it's not hard to picture how harsh and hard life must have been for prisoners kept on Alcatraz in the past. Spent my entire time in Alcatraz shivering...Brrr...

Chinatown

After Alcatraz, we walked back to Chinatown for dinner at a rather quaint restaurant with a dumb waiter. Dining there was certainly a most interesting experience as it was the first time that I've seen a dumb waiter in operation before :p Took our usual walk from Chinatown back to Civic Centre, found Market Street to be much more crowded than usual. Many groups of vagrants could be seen congregating along the street itself, guess to foreigners like us, this was definitely something that we're not used to, so the walk back to the hotel was no doubt an "eye-opener" and kind of a scary and jin1 xin1 dong4 puo4 experience to me personally...Finally made it back to the hotel at 9pm. Phew!
