Day In Brief:Trail of the CedarsAvalanche Lake
Lake Macdonald Again

We got off to a late start today. Guess all the travelling for the past 3 weeks or more is starting to show its effects. Anyway, there's nothing like a good night's sleep to start off a brand new day :)

Is this what a good night's sleep does to one? Bright, sunny and cheery smiles :)

Trail of the Cedars

Much to our disappointment, the highlight of the park - the "Going to the Sun" road that traverses Logan Pass was still closed to traffic. Well, we decided to go for one of the easier and relatively shorter hikes known as "Trail of the Cedars".

Trail of the Cedars is a rather easy short trail that takes us round a Cedar Grove. In which there was a nice gushing waterfall in the middle of the trail. After this short trail, we decided to hike onwards to Avalanche Lake.

Avalanche Lake

We proceeded south of the Avalanche Gorge footbridge on the Trail of the Cedars. The trail is 2 miles long one way and climbs 500 feet. As the snow had only thawed recently, this trail was mostly devoid of vegetation, the grounds surrounding the trail was made up more of bare barren soil and tall somewhat "naked" trees stripped of the usual foliage. Found it rather unlike the other trails that we have been walking on throughout our trip.
After much trudging, we finally reached our destination- Avalanche Lake. A hidden jewel in the embrace of the mountains. I do not think my words would do the lake justice. The pictures shall explain it all.

This was what greeted our eyes at the end of the trail.

Day In Brief:East GlacierTwo Medicine
St MaryVancouver
As the main attraction of the park- "the going to the sun" road was still not opened to traffic since it was only early summer, we decided to shorten our stay in Glacier and to proceed on to Vancouver today. But of course, who could ever give the rest of the park a miss after driving thousands of miles from SF? Definitely not us! So, once again, we started our day extremely early, to catch the other sights of Glacier and in order to reach Vancouver within a reasonable time?

St Mary

The many lakes of Glacier National Park are forms the main attractions within the park. Clear glacier melt fills up many of these lakes. The largely undisturbed ripple free surfaces of these lakes have this amazing property to clearly reflect the surrounding mountains in the water.

Seeing Once.

Don't worry, you're not seeing double!

In fact, you're seeing triple!!

One of the fantastic sights that we saw along the way in the Park.

Vancouver

It was a long and memorable journey all the way to Vancouver. Long as in the time that it took us to reach Vancouver, but memorable in terms of the sights that accompanied us on the roads, from bright cheery weather, to bad stormy weather. From daylight till sunset, from evening till late at night.

We left West Glacier at around 1pm, reached Spokane (a town in Washington that is near to the Montana-Washington border) in time for dinner at Wendy's around 8pm, weather was rather rainy and windy then. We pulled on through the night and reached Seattle slightly after midnight, and finally the US-Canadian border at 2am. Eventually, after what seems like eternity to me, we reached our hotel, smack in the middle of downtown Vancouver at almost 4am in the morning. Phew....what a day......
