| Arches National Park is reknowned for its population of carved, salmon-coloured arches, fins, spines, pinnacles and balanced rocks. These rock features have been formed over millions of years of weathering and erosion, and the process is still on-going, constantly reshaping this fantastical rock garden. Plants at Arches are adapted to the hot, dry environment of the high desert. Wildlife at Arches are mostly nocturnal. |
| "We started off on the Arches Scenic Drive that climbs from the floor of the Moab canyon to Devil's Garden. This drive is about 29 km long, and it offers numerous pull-outs along the way, offering views of the park's majestic features." |
| "The Garden of Eden was our first stop in the park. We hiked inwards to reach the Windows section, where we got to see both the North Window and South Window. In addition, we managed to climb onto Turret Arch as well, which was in close proximity to Windows. The hike was relatively easy as it was mainly along pavements and level trails that was well-marked out. Guess the only "uncomfortable part" was the heat from the sweltering sun and the hot desert climate. It was always a relief to reach either the Windows or the Arch, which provided shade from the brillant sun. Lying or sitting on the smooth rock surfaces was also a cooling experience as well :) However, the smooth rock surfaces did make climbing on them kind of difficult for people like me, who has some degree of acrophobia (simply known as fear of heights :p)" |

| In front of the North and South Windows. |
| Perched high up against the rock cliffs....gotta confess that I really didn't quite dare to look down when this shot was taken..:P | ![]() |
![]() | Hmm..now I really wonder if it would have been a better idea to have worn shorts and to have taken off my shoes...hmm... |

| The 4 of us under the hot sun. Note the difference in attire btw the guys and the gals....;p | |
| From the pull-off, a 0.5 km trail loops past this strangely eroded rock spire that's 39m high. The Balanced Rock got its name from its shape i.e. one sandstone precariously balanced on another sandstone. "Tough Balancing Act huh? See for yourself!" |

| "The oddly shaped rock structure to the left is the Balanced Rock." |
| This view point offers a view of the Delicate Arch from a distance. Delicate Arch is the arch that is usually used to symbolise Arches National Park. "However, guess there's nothing like the real thing! Read about our hike to the Delicate Arch itself in the following pages. ;)" |

| "As the afternoon desert sun proved to be far too hot for us to continue on in the park, we took a break and went back to our motel back in Moab. We returned to the park to catch Devil's Garden at sunset." |
