The Lang Mystery -- West Virginia -- 1890-1895 (The LANG Tree)
Carl Guy Lang was born illigitimate in 1892/93 (probably in West Virginia)
His father was never revealed by his mother, Elizabeth Perkins.
However, Elizabeth never went by the name LANG, and it is 90% certain that Lang is indeed the name of Carl Guy's biological father -- even though Elizabeth never provided additional information.
FAMILY THEORY: During the time of Carl Guy's conception in West Virginia (probably the Nicholas County area), the surname LANG was not prominent. The only other LANG that the family was aware of was a Phillip Lang. Phillip Lang was (as the story goes) a weathly man who owned/ran a local Lumber Company.
It is very possible that this man was in West Virginia for only a short time. In fact, my grandfather used to refer to HIS grandfather as a "travelin' man."
Anyone with information on Phillip Lang, the possible name of this Lumber Company, etc. is encouraged to email me at [email protected] . Obviously (unless I go around pricking the finger's of other "Lang's in search of a DNA match), we can never positively determine who Carl Guy Lang's father was. Regardless, we would like to find out as much probable information as possible.
The Bartlett/stump confusion -- indiana/Illinois -- 1886+ (BARTLETT Tree; STUMP Tree)
William Henry Bartlett married Katherine Sue Stump twice.
They married July 20, 1887 in Brown, IN. They also married abt. 1886 in Illinois. My personal theory is that they had a ceremony for the benefit of each side of the family -- her family was from Illinois, his from Indiana.
However . . .
Although these records have not yet been confirmed by viewing original documents -- it appears as if, at some point, William and Katherine went their separate ways.
I also have records of William marrying once more . . . and Katherine marrying twice more!
But . . . these other marriages could not have occurred after the death of their first spouce! Hmmmmm.
William also married Joanna Deckard (see Deckard tree) at some point.
Katherine also married Charles Green (see Green tree), and then married Alonzo Richardson (see Richardson tree).
Katherine died in 1955 and is buried in the same cemetary as her daughter Eunice and Eunice's husband, Erma (E.J.) Cox (see Cox tree) -- the Valhalla Cemetary in Bloomington (Monroe County), IN.
William passed away in 1942 and is buried in Knight Ridge Cemetary in Monroe County, IN.
I'd love to get further confirmation of these marriages and/or know the lurid details. If you have info, please contact me at [email protected]
The Hock "royalty" story -- germany-- prior to 1885 (The Hock Tree)
This is one of those "I-have-no-idea-if-I-should-buy-it" family stories.
According to my grandfather, Frank McGinnis (see McGinnis tree), he and his descendants have some of the noble blood of Germany pumping through their veins.
Although he told the story several times, I was, at that time, too young to care about ancestory. My mother recalls the same sort of details I do -- but no one committed much to memory. My grandfather passed away in 1985.
The story, as I remember it, is this:
My great-grandmother (his mother) Carrie Hock (see Hock tree), was a direct descendent of a Count in Germany. I can remember the name being said as something like "Count van/von Hock/Houk/Houten" -- or something like that (as I said, I was too young to care when he told the story).
He says they (the Count's immediate family) were once rich -- but a Kaiser took all their money.
To my knowledge, Carrie Hock was born in Pennsylvania in approximately 1885. I have not yet confirmed the date or location, though.
Anyone who has any knowledge of this possible ancestory -- or suggestions on how I could research it (since I don't really have a name to go on) is encouraged to email me at [email protected] .
If I can make a connection to a Titled ancestor I am assuming I could then trace that blood line back significantly due to better record keeping procedures.
