And the band played on...

Part 2

Saturday night arrives as does the party.

~I will not eat any brownies this time.~ Mary thinks to herself.

Nancy catches herself eyeing the liquor cabinet on more than one occasion and makes a mental note to talk to her counselor about attending NA meetings again. ~I don't want to travel that road again.~ She thinks remembering the trouble last fall with Alan.

Katherine looks over at Harry and smiles. ~The poor man is in dire need of ear plugs.~

Meanwhile David is out on a date glad that he managed to escape the party in case it gets out of hand.

Soon the band starts playing and one the guys there approaches Nancy and offers her a drink.

"It's just sprite." He says noticing her hesitation. She still hesitates. "Nancy come on Mary would kill me if I gave you alcohol you know that."

"Well all right." She takes it and starts drinking it. Unaware that he's been angry at Mary for quite awhile and has been looking to get even with her for beating him out of a scholarship back in high school. Mary was also unaware of his anger.

~Can't wait till the LSD takes affect.~ He thinks to himself. "Have a good time." He says and walks away.

Jason notices the smirk on his face and doesn't like it. He reaches Nancy just as he finishes the drink and takes the cup from her and examines it.

She laughs at him. "Jason what are you doing?"

"Just making sure your drink wasn't spiked." He tells her about the smirk.

Nancy shakes her head. "Don't be silly he's a friend of Mary's. Now go dance with Cassie before she gets ticked at you."

Jason does this and puts the cup in a safe place in case it's needed for evidence later.

A little while later the lsd starts taking effect. Nancy observes Sam and starts laughing. "Sam you're looking pretty strange tonight buddy."

Sam looks at her curiously and wags his tail. Which sets her off laughing more.

Mary's friend approaches her and asks her if she wants to go for a ride, planning to take her out in public and set things up so she winds up arrested. Jason sees this and comes over.

"What's going on?" He asks.

"We'll be back later." Nancy tells him. "We're going for a ride."

"You're not taking her anywhere." Jason gets in the guys face.

Cassie comes over, and drags Nancy to the kitchen.

"Look kid, we can go anywhere we want." The guy says. "Now get out of my way."

"What did you put in her drink you bastard?" Jason accuses.

Mary overhears and comes over. "Jason what is with you? He would never do something like that."

"She's right I would never do that in a million years."

"Liar!!" His girlfriend shouts at him fed up with his antics lately. "He's still ticked at you Mary from winning that scholarship in high school it's time you knew what a jerk he really is."

"Honey what are you saying?" He says starting to get nervous.

"He put LSD in her drink and then waited till it dissolved to give it to her." She tells Mary. "And wasn't kind enough to tell her."

Mary hits him so hard that it sends him sprawling. "If your still angry I understand that if you would have taken out your petty revenge on me I would understand that too. But don't mess with my siblings ever again."

Nancy's laughter from the kitchen is heard from where they are and the guy smirks at Mary.

"I win." He says and starts to leave the house. Only to be stopped by Harry who had witnessed the conversation.

"Going somewhere, young man?"

"Um uh." He stutters when he realizes that Harry is much taller than he is.

"That's what I thought," Harry smiles his lawyerly best. "Why don't you join me in my son-in-law's study?"

"Do I have to."

"I would highly advise you to cooperate."

He goes in the study with Harry before contemplating fleet but changing his mind.

"Now, sit right there," he points to a chair, "while I make a phone call."

"But it was just a joke." He lies.

"A criminally negligent joke," Harry insists.

The boy cringes under Harry's stare.

Harry keep son staring at him while he calls the police.

Meanwhile in the kitchen.

~It's going to be a long night.~ Cassie thinks to herself as she tries to keep the mood good so her best friend doesn't have a bad reaction to whatever she's on. Jason soon comes in and tells her what the guy had done.

"Has anyone called the police?" She asks trying to keep her anger in check.

"I think their Grandfather is going to do that I'm not sure." He says. "Meanwhile we need to keep her home."

"Do her brothers and sisters know?"

"Mary does."

"We should tell Joannie and Susan also, and Elizabeth and Tommy."

"No, let them enjoy themselves they'll find out soon enough." He says. "We can handle things until then."

"Handle what?" Katherine asks as she comes in.

They tell her what happened.

"Oh dear. How much did he give her?"

"We don't know." Jason tells her. "Nancy, how are you f....." He stops in mid-sentence when he realizes she's not there anymore. "Where did she go?"

"She was right here." Cassie says.

Currently on the sunporch.

"What are you doing out here all by yourself?" One of Joannie's guy friends asks her as he sits down beside her. He had been wanting to ask her out for quite some time but hadn't worked up the nerve yet.

Presently outside Nancy runs into Elizabeth and one of her friends who don't know what has happened yet.

"I have to go see a man about a....." She starts laughing. "Well I don't know what about. I'll catch you later sis." She checks her pockets for her car keys and luckily doesn't find them and starts to
walk to her destination.

"Nancy, wait!"

Nancy stops. "Elizabeth, why?"

"Let's go gets some ice cream."

"That's what I had to see the man about, ice cream."

"Who needs men?" Liz says.

Nancy laughs. "You're so right what was I thinking. Hey we have ice cream inside right?"

"Yes." Liz says. Hoping the others can help her from leaving.

They go inside and Grandma Katherine tells Liz what's going on.

"No wonder she's acting weird." Liz says. "We better not let her out of our sight. Do you think we should call Dr. Max?" Liz babbles on worried about Nancy.

"I already did he'll be here soon."

"If Dad and Abby find out about this, we'll never have another party again."

"If your Dad and Sandra Sue find out about this they'll know it wasn't your kids fault."

"You don't know dad." she sighs. "But that not important, Making sure Nancy isn't harmed is."

Nancy gets her and Elizabeth some ice cream.

"She won't be honey I promise." Katherine says.

"OK."

The police soon arrive for the guy who drugged Nancy and take him to jail. They don't break up the rest of the party since they're keeping it clean so far. Dr. Max arrives shortly after and checks Nancy's vitals.

Nancy laughs at him wondering why he's doing this. "Dr. Max you're acting pretty strange tonight."

"I know kid." He smiles at her and tells Katherine. "It doesn't appear that he gave her too much but call me if you need me." He tells her before leaving.

"That's a relief." Elizabeth replies.

"I'll say." Katherine agrees and wonders how long the high will last.

"Now what do we do?"

"You go and enjoy your party." Jason says. "We won't let her out of our sight I promise."

"You sure?"

"Yes." Cassie says. "Everything will be all right."

"Ok." she says and goes back to the party.

Six in the morning rolls around with Nancy sobering. "What happened?" She asks.

"Nancy is that you in there?" Katherine asks.

"Um yeah." Her time of being high comes back to her and she groans. "What did I do?"

"You didn't do anything wrong Nancy." Mary tells her what happened.

"That SOB." Nancy states angrily.

"Don't get upset he's already been taken care of. Why don't you go and get some sleep." Katherine says.

Nancy nods and heads upstairs.

On the way to her bedroom.

"How was the party?" She asks Joannie not remembering much of it.

"Depends on who you ask. How are you doing?"

"I'm ok just tired and you?"

"Better now that I know you're OK."

Nancy smiles and gives her a hug, then says. "I want revenge against that guy."

"If he ever gets out of jail."

"He's in jail?"

"Well, the cops took him off and Grandpa Harry had a long talk with someone in the DA's office. If he isn't in jail, I bet he wishes he was."

"Good," she states.

"I think Grandpa Harry will take care of our revenge for us."

"I should thank him is he awake still?"

"I don't know. Last I saw him was on the way out. I'll bet Grandma Katherine would know."

Katherine comes upstairs. "Nancy go to bed, he's still asleep you can thank him when you wake up."

"Ok, goodnight you two."

"Sleep well, Nance," Joannie says.

"Thanks Joannie." Nancy says before heading to bed.

"And how much sleep have you gotten?" Katherine asks Joannie

"I'm an actress. We don't need sleep."

"Yeah right, honey you can barely keep your eyes open, now go get some shut eye."

"And what about you? You didn't sleep either."

"I'm going to bed too." Katherine promises.

"I'll make sure you get there."

"And who's going to make sure you get to bed?"

"Come on, you can trust me."

Katherine kisses her goodnight and goes to bed.

Joannie goes downstairs and makes herself some coffee.

"What happened with your friend last night?" Mary asks.

"Which one?"

"The one who couldn't take his eyes off you."

"Really? I didn't notice any guy like that."

"The cute one."

"Hmm. I may just have to track him down."

Mary smiles. "Oh he'll be back I'm sure of it."

"I hope so. Why didn't you point him out last night?"

"I didn't need to he was with you on the sun porch."

"Him? You are so wrong. He's not interested in me."

"Oh yes he is."

"Really?"

Mary nods.

"Hmmmm."

"Hmm what?"

"Interesting."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know yet. I have to think about it."

"Ok," Mary says and then yawns. "I think my bed is calling me, goodnight, or is it good morning?"

"Too late to go to bed if you ask me."

Mary laughs. "I'd stay up with you but I don't think I'm going to make it."

"Go to sleep."

Mary goes upstairs to bed.

When Nancy awakens later that afternoon she finds Harry in the study.

"Are you busy?" She asks him.

"Of course not," Harry says, putting some papers aside. "How are you feeling?"

"Much better, thanks for taking care of that guy."

"He did something stupid, malicious, and criminal. I wasn't going to tolerate that sort of behavior in my daughter's house."

Nancy smiles. "You're a good dad and a good Grandpa."

"Thank you."

"Anytime." She gives him a hug and leaves the room.

She then makes a phone call and leaves the house soon after. A little while later in the counselor's office.

"I'm sorry to call you on a Sunday to meet with me but I didn't think this should wait." Nancy says to the counselor.

"That's all right. What's wrong, Nancy?"

She tells her about what happened the night before. "I'm worried that it might set me off again. Am I ready to go back to N.A meetings yet?"

"I would like you to come see me after the meeting for a while, to make sure that it's helping rather than setting you off again."

"Ok," Nancy nods in agreement. "But most of the meetings are at night, so come and see you the next morning?"

"Yes, but if something happened to upset you, call me right away."

"I will." Nancy promises.

"Good," the counselor smiles. "How is everything else going for you?"

"Things are going better. I'll always miss Noah but it's getting easier to deal with."

"That's good. Time and a support system are crucial in healing."

"I'm finding that out." Nancy smiles. "My family has really been great during this."

"Part of the process of recovery is remembering that they've probably always been great."

"Even during the times we don't get along?"

"Even so. They may disagree with you, but they still love you."

"I think I'm finally beginning to realize that. That just because someone's angry at you it doesn't mean that they don't love you anymore."

"Exactly."

They talk a bit longer and then they both head home. Nancy finds Joannie in the kitchen drinking coffee and struggling to keep her eyes open.

"Have you gone to bed yet?"

"Of course I did."

"Since Friday night I mean?"

"Oh. Um, not yet."

"Joannie you look exhausted, hey why don't we go watch some tv." Nancy suggests hoping the tv puts her sister to sleep.

"I don't want to watch TV, I want to enjoy my freedom while I can."

Nancy looks at the clock. "Oh yeah they're coming home tonight. Is David still picking them up at the airport?"

"I guess. Why wouldn't he?"

"Uh uh I don't know." Nancy says and gets something to drink.

"Is something going on I don't know about?" Joannie asks.

"It depends did you know also that his girlfriend spent the night with him."

"He let her?" Joannie asks, shocked.

Nancy nods.

"Something must be wrong with him."

"Maybe he's in love."

"David always is, but he never lets them sleep over."

"I never let who sleep over?" David asks as he walks into the kitchen.

Nancy exchanges a look with Joannie and tells him what she heard.

"Nancy Lynn Bradford mind your own business." David says firmly.

~It's true otherwise he wouldn't be using Dad's tone of voice with me.~

"Someone's getting hot under the collar," Joannie teases.

"What my girlfriend and I do is not this family's business." David states.

"Definitely love." Nancy whispers to Joannie.

"Just make sure you get to the airport to pick up Dad and Abby or it'll be all of Sacramento's business."

"I will, so how was the party?"

"Grandpa Harry had no complaints about us" Joannie hedges.

"That's great." He says. "Now what happened?"

"One of Mary's friends acted like a jerk. But he left kind of early."

"One of Mary's friends acted like a jerk. But he left kind of early."

"What did he do?" Nancy tells him adding that she's all right now. "Why doesn't that ever happen to me?" He jokes.

"Because you refuse invitations to the best parties in town," Joannie tells him.

"I really must stop doing that." He then gets serious. "Is it making you want to go out and get high or drunk." David asks Nancy.

"Not yet, but I have it covered in case it does

"Give the girl some credit, David. You'd have been proud of her last night."

"I'm always proud of my siblings." David says in his big brother tone.

Joannie jumps up and ruffles his hair.

"No not the hair, anything but the hair." He jokes.

"It's gotta be the hair."

He laughs and then looks at the time. "I better get going or I'm going to be late picking them up."

"Drive carefully." Nancy says to him.

"If they're fighting, don't bring them home."

David laughs and heads to the airport. When he gets there he waits for Tom and Abby's plane to arrive.

Before they get off the plane Tom turns to Abby. "Well, are you ready to return to battle?"

"Do I get a choice?"

"We can be draft dodgers." he jokes.

"Hmm. How far is it to Canada?"

Tom sighs. "Too far."

"Then I guess we head home."

"Yeah."

Abby kisses him. "It won't be so bad. We just have to find some way of escaping the guards once in a while."

Tom nods and descends the plane. "There's David."

David smiles, waves, and approaches them.

"If he makes any cute comments, I'm going to grab you and give him something to comment about," Abby warns, a smile pasted on her face for David's sake.

Tom begins to comment when David approaches him. "Hi Son."

"Hi Dad." David hugs them. "How was the trip?" he asks.

"Fine, how are things here?"

"Not boring that's for sure." He says.

Tom rolls his eyes. "How so?"

"The usual." He says and then changes the subject. "So did you two kids have fun?" He says and winks.

"By this time next year you'll know," Abby answers.

"Huh?"

"Never mind," Abby says, smiling.

Tom looks at her. ~You mean?~

Abby puts her arm around Tom and gives him a gentle squeeze, trying to remind him of her threat to set David up.

Tom quietly sighs.

"Uh ok." David says. ~Should I tell my brothers and sisters.~ He thinks it over. ~Naah.~ "Abby are you pregnant?" David finally asks.

"David, let's just say that your father and I had a lovely time and leave it at that for the meanwhile."

He nods and smiles. "Ok." They go to pick up their luggage and then head home.

"How was the party?" Abby asks.

"I didn't go." David says. "But I heard it was eventful."

"Eventful how?"

"Maybe it's not my place to tell you."

"Eventful how?" Abby repeats.

"He's in jail now but a jerk Mary knows spiked Nancy's soda at the party. Other than that nothing major happened at the party."

"I know it was a horrible thing to do, but being thrown in jail for putting alcohol in someone's drink seems a little extreme."

"It was LSD and Grandpa Harry is the one who had him locked up."

"LSD?" Abby says, a little louder than necessary.

David cringes. "Yes, but she's ok."

"My father must be fuming."

"I haven't seen him yet since it happened. Hey if Nancy asks I didn't tell you all right. She is taking care of it, she's going to an NA meeting tonight just in case."

"OK," Abby says, but waits for Tom's decision.

Tom is torn from feeling angry and guilty. "I think we need to talk to her." Tom states. "Don't worry David, we will be tactful."

~Oh, no~ Abby thinks. ~Tactful. Tom. I don't think so.~

"Thanks Dad, and let them greet you first, they've missed you both." He says.

Tom nods.

David pulls in the driveway.

Nicholas is the first to run out of the house. "They are here."

"Hiya Champ." Tom says as he picks him up. "Whoa you must have gained a hundred pounds."

Nicholas laughs. Tom puts him back down

"Hi Abby." Nicholas says.

"Hey Nicholas. I missed you."

"Did you bring me anything?" Nicholas asks.

Tom rolls his eyes.

"Your father isn't enough for me to have brought back?"

"Well...." he stammers.

"And some really neat shells? I don't think anything's still living in any of them, but I'm not absolutely certain."

Nicholas eyes lighten up. "Cool. Thanks Abby."

"I'll give them to you after I unpack."

"OK."

Nancy and Mary come out and hug them. "Did you have a good time?" Nancy asks her parents.

"Yep. Did you guys have a good time?" Tom asks.

"Yes." Mary says.

"Yes, sort of, can I talk to you two later?" She asks Tom and Abby.

"Sure." Tom replies.

Nancy waits for Abby's reply.

"Of course."

"Thank you." Nancy says. "Do you two need help with your luggage?"

"No Thanks, we packed light." Tom gives Abby a grin.

Abby shakes her head but smiles back at him.

"No problem." Nancy says and glances at her watch. "I have to be somewhere right now, sorry to greet you and run but I'll be back in a couple of hours."

"But what about our talk?" Tom asks.

"Can we talk when I get back?" She asks.

Tom shrugs. "OK, But where are you going?"

"To an NA meeting."

"Oh, Ok." Tom gives her a hug.

Nancy returns the hug and then leaves for the meeting.

"Let's unpack." Tom says

"Nicholas, I'll call you when I get to the shells."

"Ok."

Abby follows Tom upstairs.

"Wonder where your parents are?" Tom asks.

"Probably hiding so we can't ask them what went wrong."

"Do you think that would stop your father?"

"For once you have something on him instead of the other way around."

Tom nods. "Yeah, I do."

"Do me a favor--don't gloat about it."

"Me?" Tom asks all innocent.

"You."

"You are ruining my fun."

"There are other ways of having fun."

"That's true."

Abby continues to unpack. "Now you've got me worried."

There's a knock on the door.

"Come In." Tom says.

Katherine walks in. "Welcome home." She hugs them.

"Well I see you are still alive." Tom jokes.

"Of course I am." She says. "I'm tougher than I look."

"You have to be after I heard some of the things Abby did as a teenager."

Abby pretends to glare at him.

Katherine smiles and wonders why Abby is being so quiet.

"Don't admit to anything, Mom."

"Don't worry I won't."

"Uh huh." Tom says.

Katherine laughs more out of relief that they're not asking what happened while they were away.

"Where's Dad?"

"He's in the study preparing paperwork."

"Working already? And he doesn't even have time to say hello?"

"Speaking of which, I'll go talk to him." Tom says.

"Well uh uh, honey we need to talk."

Abby sits down on the bed. "OK, I'm listening."

Katherine sits down beside her. "Mary had this friend at the party who turned out not to be a friend at all." She tells her what happened. "Your father is taking care of paperwork on the young man right now."

Abby looks at Tom, waiting for his reaction.

"You had a easy week." Tom jokes.

"An easy week?"

"Let's just say a normal week." Tom sighs.

"Oh, I don't know," Abby jokes. "My mother may have been right. We've lived through worse."

"Oh all right."

Tom nods in agreement. "Thanks Katherine."

"Not a problem Tom."

Two hours later Nancy returns from the NA meeting and goes to the kitchen to get something to drink and ponders how she'll tell her dad and Abby. She had thought about not telling them but decided that if she didn't they might hear it through the Bradford Grapevine and they might
not get the true story about what happened. At that point a family member walks in. "Hi Abby."

"Hi. I didn't know you were back already."

"Yeah I just got back a few minutes ago."

"I'll go tell your father and we can have that talk you wanted."

Nancy nods.

Tom returns with Abby.

"Something happened at the party." She starts.

"What was it?" Abby asks, playing dumb yet again.

Nancy tells them what happened adding. "If I had known I never would have drank it."

"We know that. That's why you went to the meeting today?"

"Yes, I didn't want to take any chances."

"That's good. Where's this friend of Mary's now?"

"Grandpa Harry had him put in jail."

"I guess that's good."

"You guess?" Nancy asks.

"Depends on how you feel about him being in jail."

"I'm glad he's in jail. He could've caused a lot of damage."

"Then I'm glad, too."

Nancy smiles. "And my counselor had me promise her that I would come and see her mornings after the meetings to make sure it'll be ok."

"So you're going to her tomorrow."

"Yes."

"Good." Abby nudges Tom under the table, wondering why this time he's the one who's so silent.

"I'm proud of you Nancy."

"Really? Thanks Dad."

"So how are you feeling now?"

"I'm feeling all right." She says. "Well enough to hear about the cruise."

"It was very nice," Abby smiles.

"The scenery was fabulous." Tom says looking at Abby.

"Good, you two need time like that to yourselves with just the two of you."

"And the activities were really exciting," Abby answers, looking at Tom.

~I think they want to be alone.~ Nancy pretends to yawn. "I'd think I'd better get up to bed, goodnight."

"You going to be OK tonight?"

Nancy smiles and nods. "Yes."

"If you decide you need to talk some more, just come get us."

"I will and thanks Abby." She hugs her and her Dad and then goes upstairs to bed.

"Well, they certainly made sure we had an exciting homecoming," Abby says when Nancy is out of earshot. "What did my father tell you when you spoke to him?"

"Oh, no. I forgot. I got sidetracked. Where is he now?"

"Still in your study, I guess. I haven't seen hide nor hair of him yet."

Tom goes to his study. "Looks like my office has been well used."

"I always thought it was unfair, everyone in this family so cramped and you having so much space of your own. But now I see it's the only way you keep any hold on sanity, however tentative," Harry answers. "Welcome home."

~He's complimenting me?~ Tom is surprised. "Thanks, I understand there was a little excitement while we were gone."

"You mean that young man? No need to worry--I've taken care of him. If he ever darkens your door again, you let me know and I'll have one of my colleagues here in town slap a restraining order on him."

"Thank you."

"How do you let your daughters associate with such characters in the first place?"

Tom sits down. "It's a different world when we were kids."

"Not so different than when Sandra Sue was. And while she lived under my roof, nothing like this ever happened."

~That you know about.~ He thinks. "Yes but there was only 1 of her and I have 8 to deal with."

"Well, that was your choice."

"Yes and as hard as it is sometimes, I wouldn't change a thing."

~I'll bet not, since it's probably my daughter who does most of the work around this squirrel cage.~ "You'll be getting Nancy some help, I suppose."

Tom nods. "She's took care of that herself."

"It's good to hear that someone in this house is responsible."

Tom holds his tongue. "Look Harry, I know you don't like me very well; but for Abby's sake can't we try to be friends?"

"Friends?" Harry repeats as though the concept were alien to him.

Tom rolls his eyes.

"I can't recall that I was ever friends with Katherine's father. Then again, I wasn't my father-in-law's contemporary. You're right, Thomas--it's a different world than the one you and I grew up in."

~OK, that all the insults I can take in one sitting.~ "Well, I better go see what everyone else is up to."

"I'll just finish up this paperwork and then I'll let you have your study back."

"Take your time." Tom says and leaves.

~I will never understand what my daughter sees in that man~ Harry thinks as he gets back to his papers.

Tom returns to the bedroom.

Abby and Katherine are talking, but look up when Tom walks in.

"Oh, I am sorry. I hope I'm not interrupting something." Tom says.

"Tom what's wrong?" Katherine asks.

"Nothing, Nothing at all." Tom pastes a smile on his face.

"Mom, could you see about starting dinner?" Abby hints.

"But it's 11pm."

"Then a late night snack."

"Sure." Katherine goes to the kitchen.

"I think you hurt her feelings." Tom says.

"I'll apologize in a little bit. What did my father say to you this time?"

"Just the usual." He tells her of the conversation.

"Why do you let that bother you? The year on your birth certificate is the least important thing about you."

Tom shrugs.

"Come on, Tom. Why does it matter?"

"I Don't know why I let him get to me. Maybe its my own insecurities. Joan's father didn't like me, so why should Harry be any different?"

"All that really matters is that their daughters liked you enough to marry you."

Tom relaxes a bit. "You are right, but why I'll never know."

"Next time we can get away from the crowds around here I'll have to remind you."

Tom grins.

Soon there's whining at their bedroom door and a scratch at the door.

"Looks like there's one kid we forgot to greet."

Tom opens the door. "Hi there Sam."

Sam wags his tail wanting to be petted.

Abby kneels down next to him and starts petting him.

Sam gives her a kiss.

Abby laughs.

Meanwhile down the hall.

"Susan what are you doing in my room?" Mary asks as she walks into her bedroom.

Startled, Susan attempts to hide what she's looking at under Mary's bed. "Hi Mary"

"Hi Susan, what's ya hiding?" Mary asks.

"Nothing. Why?"

"Is it mine?"

"Well, it's not mine."

"Let me see."

Susan ~hoping Mary doesn't ask why she's in her room~shows Mary the drugs she found stashed under Mary's bed. "Are these yours?"

Mary is stunned. "No they're not. Where did you find this?"

"Under your bed."

"Someone from the party must have put it there."

"Probably. Any ideas who?"

Mary's face clouds over. "Maybe the same jerk who drugged our sister."

"I betcha you're right."

"So what do we do about it?"

"Find out who and get revenge."

"Good idea."

"Maybe we could get some of the others to help us."

"I'm all for that. But we also have to get rid of this stuff."

"Maybe we could put this stuff in a box in the garbage?"

"And if Dad or Abby find it?"

"They won't," Susan says. "We'll just stash it in an empty cereal box and they'll never know."

Mary thinks it over. "Well all right."

Susan place the drugs in a bag and heads out to the garbage to dispose of them.

The next day after her appointment with the counselor Nancy returns home to find Katherine and Harry getting ready to leave.

"You're leaving already?"

"Your father and Sandra Sue are back home, so it's time for us to get back to civilization," Harry tells her.

"Harry." Katherine hisses.

"Yes, dear?"

"Not in front of the kids." She whispers.

"Yes, dear."

Nancy hugs them. "Have a safe trip home."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." She says and heads upstairs.
