Welcome To Shelley's Website

Welcome to Shelley's website. Please bear with me as I am constructing a website for the first time and progress might be slow.

I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.

I am not a great writer, but I do like to talk and put things down on paper. I have never been a great thinker, or even a very deep thinker. I lived in my own little world, and I chose not to get involved with politics or news or anything that may be a little controversial. Mostly this was because I grew up on a farm, in a little town, with parents who were (and still are) very narrow minded. I did disagree with my parents and especially my adoptive father. I felt he was very chauvinistic and discriminating. He thought women couldnt do things that men normally did, or that blacks and other races werent as good as us. He also thought people with less money than us were beneath us. This was always funny for me, as we were far from being rich. After all, we ran a family owned farm.

I instinctively fought these views when I was young, even though this was all I heard. I believe anyone, regardless of gender or race, can do anything that they want to. Every race has it bad seeds. No one is perfect. You cant judge a whole race on a few people. This, of course, also goes for gender.

I am much older now and have been married twice, had 3 children, 2 step children, and many different experiences. I have worked different jobs, but mainly ones that used to be dominated by men. I am good at fixing things, even though I am a woman. I can build and create. My gender does not stop me. I have been one of only a few women in many of the jobs I have worked. I kind of enjoy breaking down those barriers. I like to think I can do anything a man can do, of course this means given the same training and opportunity. Of course there are some things I can not do, but it has nothing to do with gender.

My second (and current) husband has opened my eyes even more. He has introduced me to many other things that I never even thought about. I have put a few things here, but please feel free to visit each page for more on each subject.

One of the things that my husband has introduced me to, is a look at other religions. While in college he checked into some other religions. After we got married, he has shared some of this with me. This too has helped me see things differently. For more of my ideas of religion, please visit my religion page, but please keep an open mind.

I have always loved nature and have been an outside person, but I never really thought about the environment much. I used to sit in it, but I never thought about how to keep it safe, or even how I was helping ruin it. Please visit my page on the environment for more of my views.

Something else about me is that I believe every one should be their own person. Why should every one try to fit into some mold. Not every one is thin, gorgeous, tall, etc. Then again why should every one want to be? Just because somewhere along the line, someone decided this is what every one should be like. I personally believe that you should be who you are. If people dont like you for who you really are, are they really your friends? We all have different personalities, minds, and bodies. I used to tell my kids when they were younger, that being called weird was a compliment. I still believe that. I believe that every one is unique and should take that as a wonderful compliment. If every one was the same wouldnt that be a very boring world to live in? I think so.

My first page is up featuring a glimpse at our Renaissance Wedding. My husband also has a page with more general renaissance information and pictures of our 2004 trip to the festival. My unicorn page is also up, but there may be changes as I go.

Other pages will be coming sooner or later featuring some of our other interests including:
