2000: THE millenium : "OLD: the new NEW."

Early 2000s
* Many styles popular in the 1990s remain popular in the 2000s.
* While it was fashionable in the '90s to wear baseball caps in reverse, this trend slowly shifted towards favoring wearing it to the side or forward and slightly tilted.
* Hip-hop fashions influenced many subcultures including chav, ghetto and juggalo. Sagging, popularised by rappers remained in fashion until 2007.

Mid-Late 2000s
* Brightly-colored plastic bracelets for charity became popular for a short time in 2004-2005. They were started by the yellow Livestrong bracelets for cancer research and spread into other causes. Each color had a certain meaning (for example black and white meant anti-racism, while pink symbolised gay pride)The plastic bracelet fad faded away at the end of 2005.
* vintage/ geek chic clothing becomes popular, inspired by indie fashion.
* Camo patterns, and bandanas or shemaghs are frequently worn as scarves by young people * Retro fashions have become even more popular, with mainstream clothing stores picking up on the trend. 60's style peasant tops, long beaded necklaces and other hippie clothes came into style. As well, 80's-like leggings were popular with girls who wore them as pants, or underneath mini skirts.
* Striped jumpers, striped usually in combinations of Green, grey, brown, blue or black. In this colours are less vibrant than in the 90's.
* Preppy fashion came into style around 2005 as a way of rejecting rap/hip hop-based clothing (e.g. mini skirts, revealing tops.) Preppy clothes included Lacoste shirts, khakis and jeans for boys, as well as American Eagle or Abercrombie & Fitch striped sweaters and pants for girls. Preppy clothes were made to be more revealing later in the decade. Horizontal stripes and repetitive patterns of bunny silhouettes were all the rage.
