Helpful Hints for "The Sims"
move_objects on - Lets you move objects out of bounds or delete anything, even the roaches, water puddles, and dirty dishes. If you delete one of your Sims, and then click on their picture in the control panel at the bottom, they will come back almost completely refreshed.
Cheats
To open the cheat window, press CTRL + SHIFT + C at the same time.
rosebud - Gives you 1,000 simoleans. Type in rosebud;!;!;!;!; repeating the ;! for more money. Type in rosebud;!;!;!;!;!;1; (that's the number one at the end) and it will say No Such Cheat. Press enter and you will get the money anyway. Keep pressing enter to keep getting more money.
water_tool - Lets you create surface water on the property.
map_edit on or map_edit off - This will show you the grid of what squares are out of bounds on the property. Click on a shaded square to make it part of the property. If you place a wall exactly between a shaded and unshaded square, it will be cut off in the neighborhood screen. Same with trees placed on both sides.
grow_grass 150 - Will turn brown grass green.
Sims can die accidently by a cooking fire or electrocution. If you want to make a graveyard and have some ghosts haunting your house, there are a few ways to kill a Sim. *Take away the door to the room a Sim is in with no fridge. The Sim will eventually die in about 3-4 days from starvation. Not a best way to do it, because you have to listen to them cry for help that whole time. *The most humane way, maybe, is to have the Sim go for a swim and take away the ladder. Once their energy is gone, they will die usually within 24 hours. *The quickest way is to set the Sim on fire, which can be downloaded here. Not a pretty sight, but they will die in a matter of minutes. If the Sim jumps out of the way of the fire, you may have to put a fence around him/her. Kind of evil, but it works.
An easy way to move a family and their home to a new neighborhood is to copy the .fam file from the export folder in the UserData neighborhood they are in. Paste these files into the import folder in UserData. The import icon by the bulldozer on the neighborhood screen will be lit up, then, allowing you to move them to any neighborhood.

Where To Place Downloaded Houses To Use In Your Game
Program Files > Maxis > The Sims > UserData# > Houses The UserData folders are numbered according to the neighborhoods in your game. Copy just the House#.iff file into the Houses folder in which ever neighborhood you want it in. Make sure there are just .iff files in the Houses folder, no folders. The new property will copy over any house that is there now, so pick an empty lot or copy & save the other House#.iff in a different place (or see Moving Families to a New Neighborhood below). House01.iff goes on Lot 1, House02.iff goes on Lot2, etc. The Site Map page has a picture of how the lots are numbered in "The Sims."
Where To Find Useful Files In The Game
Program Files > Maxis > The Sims > UserData# > Web Pages > {Family Name_#_Sim_Lane} > FamilyGFX Here you will find pictures of your Sim family, their house, and scrapbook photos.
Default Mailbox & Trash Can
If you accidently deleted your mailbox or trash can, or if you bulldozed a lot where they have been moved and they don't show up on the empty lot, copy an original lot or house onto that lot to fix it. {see Original Lots & Houses below}.
Original Lots & Houses
Need to fix a modified lot, or want the original houses that came with the game that you've bulldozed a long time ago? Click here to download all ten default lots & houses from "The Sims" neighborhood 1.
The properties from Sims Real Estate Company should not have any user-made objects in them. If you install a house made from House Party or Livin' Large, and you don't have those expansion packs, a message will show up "Some objects can not be loaded." when you go into the house for the first time. Just click OK and the house will have less furniture and the wallpaper & flooring will be covered by those that you have. The house will still be playable.
