the research industry
Our industry can typically be divided into four segments; the ultimate buyers of research, research suppliers with operational support (full service), niche research suppliers and operations (field) providers. Our enterprise is a field provider of medium size servicing over 125 clients each year. Globalisation and Australian consolidation continues within our industry.

transition to online
The biggest phenomena is the shift away from personal interviewing to self-completion via the Internet. This methodology is appropriate for audiences where there are established relationships. Issues arise when used for general population studies. In 2004, Bock and Heller presented their ground breaking paper, Liars, Dammed Liars and Respondents, at the AMSRS Conference in Melbourne. My thinking evolved from this paper and in July 2005 I prepared and presented on the topic Appropriate use of Online Panel for research at the AMSRS "Advances In Internet Research Workshop" in Melbourne. In November 2006 I drafted a rough quality data model for Online random population studies requiring sample from an Internet panel operator, called the Calibration model.
