| Tues 05/06 - We got up this morning at 5.30am and caught the local underground to the central station. The train to Singapore was supposed to leave at 7.30am but was delayed until 8.15pm. It was absolute paradise after the nightmare of a journey we had. We passed through loads of jungle and traditional villages. We arrived to in Singapore at 3pm to find that our hotel had messed up our reservation but we found another hotel down the road, Regalis Court, on Lloyd Road. It was 50 quid for the night and the room didn't even have a window!!! When you were in there you didnt know if it was day or night. We decided to go see the large R.C. Cathedral in the centre of Singapore. After all those Buddhist temples we'd have been glad to see a good old RC chapel, but my map reading skills weren't very good. We gave up and then walked to Clarke Quay. This is the touristy part of Singapore, fill over overly pricey pubs and restaurants. Wed 06.06 - Went back to city centre. Went to Father Flannagan's Bar , but purely for spiritual purposes!!! Pints were 7 pound! We found the Cathedral (see picture above), and had just missed mass but went in for a few moments. Back to the hotel to pick up our bags and then it was off to the airport. 2 pound on the train and bus compared to 12.50 in a taxi. The flight was was delayed until 10.40. When I came back from a visit to the toilet Claire told me she had seen the fella from Countdown. We went in search of him to talk to him and maybe get a photo. We eventually found him and I appoached him and asked was he Richard Madeley. I had unfortunately mixed him up with the guy from "This Morning with Richard and Judy"!!! He said "WHAT!" I tried to recover by asking was he the fella from Countdown. He said she he was. He was a very nice man and asked us all about his trip. (To see photos CLICK HERE). He had been in Northern Australia making a documentary. He told us that Singapore Airport had a swimming pool and it was worth a look. |
