Bali

Thurs 07.06 - We arrived on Wednesday night / Thursday Morning 2am.  We had booked one
night into the Bali Dynasty Resort.  It was an absolutley beautiful place and we would have stayed
there for the 10 days except for the fact that it was 125 US dollars a night!!

We were walking around aimlessly looking for a place mentioned in the Guide Book, when I asked a fella for directions.  The fella, James was from Camden, London and of Irish Parentage (as 70% of the English population probably are!).  He said he was staying in a nice place for 7 pound a night.  He led the way.  They were cottages, lovely, except there was no ceiling just the thatch roof and there were loads of ways mosquitoes could get in.  We managed to sleep but Claire woke me at 4.30am saying there was a bat
hanging from the ceiling.  I was worried, for about 10/15 minutes until I realised it was the lightbulb
hanging from the ceiling!!!!!

Fri 08.06 - We spent walking around exploring Kuta and lying on the beach trying to lose the farmer tan, not with much success!  And then we went to Paddy's Pub for a drink or five.  We were disappointed with Paddys it was playing Abba downstairs and dance music upstairs.  We sat up stairs.  After 1 hour I was getting bored and was thinking of going when I saw a fella eyeing my Derry GAA jersey.  I looked at him and the girl standing beside him.  I looked at her and I thought it can't be.  She look at him again.  I said to the Claire, "Jaysus, that Deirdre!!"

I worked with her in Compaq before I left.  I called her name and sure enough it was her on her way back from OZ.  She had no idea I would be in Bali and I had no idea that she would be here either.  The Small World phenomenon strikes again.  We drank to five in the morning.

Sat 09.06 - Today was a non-event.  It began at 1pm.  Sun was out of the question, dehydration was at an all time high.  Worked on the web for a while, ate and went to bed at 11pm.

Sun 10.06 - Today was a beach day.  Claire got burned on her back quite badly.  We meet James and his partner, Zoe, again.  Zoe has Tonsilitis and the doctor recommended that she go home to the UK for the Op.  But they have decided that they will get it done in Oz and claim off the insurance.  James is going to Perth as well.

Mon 11.06 - We went to the Bali Elephant Park this morning and got to ride on the back of an 14 year old elephantcalled Lokip.  It was one of those things that was quite expensive to do but is a once in a lifetime experience and thats what this trip is all about.  We got some really great photos.
