| Tues 12/06 We went to the beach ALL day. I'm sorry to sicken you all but if it makes you feel better I will be looking for work in Perth in a few days to cover the cost of all this relaxation!! We were to meet Deirdre, the girl I worked with in Compaq, at 10pm in Paddies, but we were early so we went to the bar next door for a drink. Two Balinese fellas started chatting to us, Yoman and Nyoman. We chatted about various things but one main thing was evident and that was that they are the same as any 20 year old fellas in the world, theyre sex mad!! There dream was to meet an Australian woman who they could marry and settle in Oz. He said his monthly salary was 70 US Dollars a month. About 65 Irish Pounds. Yoman, was a diving instructor and when I heard this I talked to him about the chance of us doing it. He said he would lift us at the hotel at 10am on Thursday. We countinually checked if Deirdre had arrived at Paddies and finally meet them at midnight. Her friend, Imelda and Paul where with her and Enda. Good nights craic until 3am. Wednesday 13/06. No breakfast. Just about managed to get up in time for Lunch. Another Club Sandwich!!! I've heard of been clubbed to death, but we are being club sandwiched to death!!! After leaving restaurant, Claire realised there was a cockroach on my rucksack. You can just imagine the scene we made in the middle on a shopping area dropping the rucksack and emptying the contents to see where the wee fucker was!! I finally got rid of it. I hate to think what might have happened had Claire not noticed it. I felt sick all evening so I stayed in the room, whilst Claire went to the beach and got chatted up by the locals. No doubt the thought of life in Ireland appeals to them, crazy isnt it, everyone in Ireland would love to live in Bali!! Thursday 14/06. Up at 8.30am. I got that feeling I used to get waiting for Gerard Gavvy to turn up for a lesson. Yoman, to his word, appeared at 10am, much to our dissappointment. We were getting rather nervous. We picked up another couple, from Switzerland, Tobias and Alexander. It was a fifteen minutes to Nusa Dua. The swiss couple decided not to dive and went for a walk instead. We put on our wet suits (very sexy) and then meet our instructor, Mustifer. He took us through what we would have to know. We went out on the boat. Claire began to feel very sea sick, and decided against diving. (she says she will definitely do it in OZ). I donned the tanks mask, said an Our Father, a Hail Mary and a Glory Be, and then put in the mouthpiece. I sat on the end of the boat just like they do on tele and leaned backwards into the water. We stayed on the surface until I felt calm and then he went below me and we submerged. It is the weirdest, and most magnificent experience I have had. It is so close but yet so detached from the real world. I swam over beautiful coral and differnt shaped and colours, but the fish were so bright and colourful. Because I was blinkered I could be looking forward and next thing this blacked and white striped fish with a bright yellow tail would swim past my mask about 3 inches from my nose. Un f**king believeable. At one stage Mustifer showed me an unwater cave and pointed in it and I could only see a few small grey fish. Mustifer then wrote SHARK on the sea bed. I didn't wait about for long. We emerged from the sea after 21 minutes and we had went down only 8 metres (the limit for a beginner). But I would recommend it to anyone. The best experience I have had so far on our trip. That afternoon and today, Friday we just spent on the beach reading. |
