Bunbury (Page 3)

Thur 19.07 - Went to the Big Swamp in Bunbury.  Beautiful unspoilt swamp with lots of wildlife.  Read book for a few hours there.  Met up with Diarmuid and Nuala for a drink in Dicey Reilly at the end of the night.

Sat 21.07 - Went to look at Swags with Gary.  He bought one. They're halfway between a tent and a sleeping bag.  Didn't buy one.  Claire and I then walked to the big swamp and on out to town.  I saw my first live game of Aussie Rules.  It was an underage game so it wasnt that good.

Thur 26.06 - Went to internet cafe as usual to work on my website.  There was a man wearing a Glentoran football jersey.  Got chatting to him.  Bob is originally from Belfast and has been out here for 20 odd years.  He gave me a lift out to the hospital so that I could meet Claire.

I bought sketch pad for a hobby.  Should be interesting!

Fri 27.07 - Sketched in the morning.  Ive still got a bit of a talent for it, not Van Gogh or Rembrant yet, but I'll keep working on it!

Claire, Vicky, Gary, Graham and I went for a drink to the Rat and Parrot.  There was karaoke but they managed to avoid my singing or attempt at it.  Claire got chatted up whilst I was at the toilet.  You can't turn you back for a second!

Sat 28.07 - Sun 29.07 -
See Augusta Page

Mon 30.07 - Steve Murphy rang.  He travelling to Darwin.  He might be there when we get there.

Tues 31.07 - Priced camcorders.  We are seriously tempted to get one but we will wait a while.    I then  cycled to Eaton and on to Australind, neighbouring towns to Bunbury (about a 30km cycle).  My legs were like jelly.

Fri 03.08 - Gary was heading to Derby for his 3 week holiday.  We were catching the same bus.  Claire, Vicky and I went up to Perth to stay with Diarmud and Nuala.  Theyve a lovely little flat in the Claremont part of Perth.  We had a wine filled nights Craic. Both D and N are fantastic on the tin whistle.  We even had a go on the Didgerido that Diarmuid had bought.  Didn't sound very pleasant and I dont think the neighbours would have been very impressed as it was 1.30am when we began to play it!

Sat 04.08 - We went to city centre and found out as much information about travelling north to Darwin.  Some tour seem very expensive.  Whilst in one of the shops Claire said she knew the person in front of us. As she was leaving the fella behinf the counter mentioned her book by Moncrief.  I said "Good grief Moncrief, hes from Ahascragh"  I asked her where she was from.  She siad Ballinasloe.  She was two above Claire at Scoil Mhuire in Ballinasloe.  This small world thing is really true.  She is travelling north too and shared all the information she had gathered.

That night we had another wine filled night, playing games.  Its sounds naff but we had a great laugh.

Sun 05.08 - Got the bus at 1.15pm eventually after the Taxi driver had taken us to the wrong bus depot.  Apparently there are three or so in Perth.

Relaxed for the evening after making dinner.  Ciaran texted me to tell me that Derry had beaten Tyrone in the All Ireland  Quarter Final.  Revenge is sweet.  They now play Galway in the Semifinal.  A conflict of interests for Claire and I.  It would be great to see that game in Perth, but weve promised to go out with Gary for a meal that night, our last night in Bunbury.

Fri 10.08 - Sun 12.08 - Go to
The Pinnacles Page.

Tues 14.08 - Placed ad in the local paper to sell mountain bike.  Checked email.  Granny had fall at home and had ended up with 5 stitches in her forehead and pulled a muscle in her knee, so in the evening I rang to wish her well.
Thurs 16.08 - Sold bike to a fella called Jess for 35 dollars less than I paid for it.  Anniversary of Elvis' death.  Loads of tribute shows on tele.
Sat 18.08 - Bought Pentax zoom lens camera and sleeping bags in preparation for out trip north up the west coast.  Also phoned about buying a campervan but it had been sold.
Sun 19.08 - Went to the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre, the main tourist attraction, but there were no Dolphins! Drove 10 kms to Australind where one of the smalles churches in the world is, St Nicholas' Anglican Church.  Its 7 metres by 4 metres.
Wed 22.08 - Bought our Western Exporer Bus Passes that will get us from Perth to Darwn.  Theyre $530 each.
Claire, Vicky, Graham and ! went to the local cops charity do.  There was a raffle and I win the main prize.  A limousine tour of 5 wineries (valued at $500)!!!
Thurs 23.08 - Rang about  wine tour.   The vehicle isn't available over the weekend.  Bummer!!  We have decided to give the prize to Gary as a going away present.
Sat 25.08 - Bought a 3 man tent for $79 and bought our bus tickets to Perth.  Put tent up in 15 minutes in back garden.  Easy enough to put up.
Sun 26.08 - Gary arrived back from holiday in Derby.  Great colour.  Loads of photos.  Met Vicki for a drink and then went back to Garys.  Claire and I rang Claires Dad to listen to the last 15 minutes of Galway  Derry Game (All Ireland SemiFinal).  Im sure every body knows how the game turned out so I wont dwell on the outcome.  Claire was happy.  I was not!
Mon 27.08 - Gary left us in to Bunbury to get the bus.  We said our goodbyes and invited him to Ireland and it was off on our travels.
