| Sat 28.07 - Up at 8am and picked up Vicky. Gary came too. Stopped off in Margaret River for Vicky to buy more CD's. Arrived in Augusta 11.30am. First of all we went to a shell museum. It doesn't sound very interesting but there were massive King Crabs, Lobsters and poisonous shells there. People have actually died from lifting a shell!! Crazy place this. We went to the tourist office and booked ourselves on to the whalewatching tour, $45 each, the next morning at 10am, and had lunch. We booked into the Baywatch Manor Hostel. It is fantastic. Its won the best hostel in Australia for the last 5 years since it was built in 1995 and its not surprising. If you're ever passing STAY THERE. We then travelled to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse (to see picture CLICK HERE). Cape Leeuwin is where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet. For $6 each we went to the top of it and used binoculars provided to view the scenery. We spotted a few people down the coast watching a whale so we decided to drive to where they were. When we arrived at Quarry Bay, people told us to walk for 1km and when we got there there was a whale and its calf swimming about 30m from the coast. We watched the sunset from there and then retired to the local hotel for dinner and a few pints of Murphy's Stout. Sun 29.07 - Up at 8.30. Museli and Water for breakfast. We went to jetty and broaded the boat at 10am. We were out in the water for 3 hours and followed a group of three whales for about 2 of the 3 hours. They were sometimes within 10 metres of the boat. It was really, really excellent. We took loads of photos. When we arrived back on Terra Firma we had lunch and ice cream. We then travelled on to Jewel Caves. (See picture above) They were only discovered in 1957 and opened to the public in 1959. They were absolutely breathtaking. The stalignites and staligtites that are millions of years old. Arrived back in Bunbury at 6.30 and chilled out for the evening. |
