Snes9x v. 1.39 -- Windows/MacOS/Linux/Dos
Snes9x is a surprisingly good emulator. It has very good sound playback, good visual quality, especially when running filters, and good joystick support. It also has a good number of other features which you may or may not even notice. The only detractant is that the speed seems a bit slower than Zsnes, but it may not be noticable depending on the speed of your computer. Every game I've thrown at it has worked so far though, so its reliable too.

Zsnes v.1.36 -- Windows/Linux/Dos
Rock solid emulator that's been around for quite some time. All other emulators, regardless of the system are judged in quality against this one (as far as I'm concerned). Great playability, great stability, great sound, and great visual quality. Nothing to complain about here.

7th Saga - 792Kb
I actually found this RPG to be rather fun. You begin by selecting a character from 6 different characters, each with their strengths and weaknesses. You progress across the realm, searching and collecting the mystic runes. A bit after the beginning, you can recruit another member of the six possible choices to your team, to make a maximum party of 2. While you can only control two characters, the turn-based battles are somewhat impressive, making use of mode 7 effects. The world is a bit dull though, with very few (if any), side quests, but the character growth is great and the gameplay is fun, so all in all, its a decent game.

Act Raiser - 671Kb
This is a mix between platformer action, city management, strategy, and RPG. A true hybrid, actraiser pulls it off with much aplomb. You play a god that must clear the world of evil, and you send down a little angel, cupid thingee, to keep your towns protected from the monsters flying about. Of course, before you can build your towns, you have to clear the monsters and a boss in a sidescrolling action bit, one for each town, and then do it again at the end of the town's growth. This is a very neat game.

One link is the game, the other is the patch. You are Byuu, well in game sense, cuz I really dont know who you are. You are a Draogn Rider. A big evil man (sooooo cliche) destroyed your kingdom and took the princess. Now it is time for some payback via dragon. The best thing about this game is the ability to control dragons alongside party members. Hard to explain. Each dragon has his/her own abilities- like healing, fire, ice, water, things you have come to expect in an RPG. Graphics are nice, as is sound. A must have for RPG gamers.

Brought to you by Blizzard. Yes the ones behind Starcraft and Warcraft. The evil Orcs (or creatures resembling them) have destroyed your town. Before they could get to you, you are transported to earth with the "Lightstone". With this "Lightstone" the orcs will take over the world. Unless we pay them one billlllion dollars, Muhahahaa, muhahahaha, hehe, ha. Wait never mind the money part. You are transported back 20 years later. Now you are a pissed off, shotgun toting, long haired man. Which kind of resembles a redneck from the south, anyways, game is good, of course any game that lets you blow people away with shotguns is sweet.

This is like a Megaman game. Dont know what the story is since I passed up the intro. So far I know you are a robot named Bob, and you destroy your enemies with an arsenal of weapons. And for some reason this game comes with cheats that you can activate on the main screen, of course I am not one to cheat. Considering one of my motto's is "Cheaters never prosper, unless they do it right". Anyways enough blah, download the game, if you are not happy with it return it and get Homer as my free gift to you. Void the free gift in the entire galaxy. Offer good after the year 99,999,999 AD.

Breath of Fire - 1.03Mb
An entertaining RPG, Breath of Fire is based around a character that can change into a dragon during the turn-based battles and has the destiny of saving the world. There are eventuall 8 total characters to control, each with their special abilities, and its these characters that probably make the game more interesting than it might not have been. The graphics in the game feel very solid, and the gameplay is rather fun, albeit a bit slow at times, but not painfully so. At any rate, its a good RPG to while away the hours.

Breath of Fire 2 - 1.03Mb
On paper, this game should be better in ever aspect then the original Breath of Fire. The graphics are strictly better. The game is longer. There are more things to do, and places to see. More monsters to kill. But it just doesn't feel right, this one. The progress is slow. The plot, while less cliched than the previous game, is less interesting and takes far too long to get anywhere. And while probably just a personal preference, the charm of the previous game is completely absent from this one. Nontheless, it can still be fun to play now and then. And as a plus, the fishing is much better in this game than the previous one. And changing Ryu into dragons has always kicked much ass.

Chrono Trigger - 2.94Mb
Arguably the best RPG on the Snes. Rivaled perhaps only by FF3(6 Jap). Battles are phased real time (think Final Fantasy), since it is a Square game aftter all, but the true beauty of the system is the magic subsystem. You can combine allies turns to use a multiple spell technique. As well, the story is interesting, for the most part since you have the ability to travel through time and space. Anyways, it is extremely recommended.

This is the English translation of the 5th game in the Dragon Quest series (Dragon Warrior series state-side). It was a treat for me to recently play this game, as I grew up with the first four games in the series, and am a big fan. If you've played any of the previous four, this game should feel familiar, thanks in part to the good translation, but also because of the relatively simple graphics that appear a bit to be little better than NES quality. Despite this, the gameplay is as good, if not better, than the previous games. The story also is an improvement over the previous games. At any rate, this is a great RPG by most any standards, and you shouldn't pass up this opportunity to play it, unless you happen to know that crazy japanese language and have played and understood this game already.

This classic Final Fantasy game for the Snes was the US follow-up to the original Final Fantasy game for the Nes although there were two sequels to the game on the Nes. Nevertheless, this particular game stands alone and above and beyond most other RPG's for this system with its mix of interesting characters, great music, and its not as cliched storyline as either lufia game. At any rate, have fun with this one, cause the next one, Final Fantasy 5 isn't nearly as good.

This game was never released in the US, so this is the translation of the Japanese version. I can sort of see why this one wasn't released too. The plot takes a step backwards from the previous version, as does the characterization, and, in my opinion, the music too. Its only redeeming factor is its job functions for your characters. Much like FF3 on the NES, FF5 allows you to change the class of the characters at any time, like fighter, and blue mage. Its interesting to play, but doesn't hold one's attention for too long.

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest - 350Kb
Think of this game as RPG Lite! Primarily, you simply follow a completely and obtrusively set, linear path. Impossible to miss anything, the game even makes it so that you will essentially be at the level it wants you to be when you get there. You control one hero character not of your choosing and during your quest you will recruit the assistance of a few other people, but never more than 1 at a time. This character is either controlled by the computer or you and its a tradeoff to choose which. On one side, if you control the character yourself, you can be more strategic and prevent bonehead moves, but on the other side, you have to press the a-button fewer times and the character can behave precognitively at times. At any rate, this game breaks no new ground anywhere, but it didn't intend to. On the level it set to reach, it succeded admirably, but the level was rather low.

Half the fun of Zelda with all the same mechanics! I guess what sets it apart is that there are hardly any places to wander and its anime style. Also the animation is truly some of the most horrendous I've ever seen. The hero's sword swinging animation is truly the weakest thing I've ever seen in my life. Its no wonder the Game Over screen popped up lots of times. If for nothing else, download the game to look at the stupid sword, flashing out of his clothes apparently to scratch the mindless foes that walk aggressively in his direction. Don't be surprised when you hear a little bell dinging upon striking your foes. It means success! And don't be surprised when an enemy steps on your feet, sending you flying backwards ten feet into a pit. And don't be surprised by the 3 frames of animation signifying you have fallen into a bottomless chasm, followed be the game over screen. The music is neat though.

They are computer controlled, unless you have 2 other friends to play with, as they can control them.
