Lara is an amazing character. She is strong and fiesty and in some ways she reminds me of me. She has had, for me anyway, some of the best moments of series 16.
The episode after Patrick's death, Memories, was so emotional and moving. The way Christine Stephen-Daly played the grieving fiancee just re-inforced my feelings about what an impressive and flexible actress she is. It was the look in her eyes as she looked in the mirror than did it for me, I felt emotionally connected and I felt her pain.
Lara and Patrick to me were a couple in love. I know some people, OK a lot of people, will disagree and tell me that Holly and Patrick were a couple in love but to be honest I can see both sides of the story. From my view-point (in front of the TV in case anyone wondered!) I think that I can say in all honesty Lara loved Patrick. The question is was that love requited. I think it was. But that's just me and I'm not aiming for another argument.
Also Simon, there is my next ranting point. When he arrived I was very sceptical. I didn't want a Patrick replacement and as soon as I saw him I thought of Patrick. That was a bad thing but the next week I thought this could work and I began to warm to him, I even liked him. But then what does the stupid plank go and do, he talks about a man, Patrick, who he never met and as far as we know doesn't know anything about. He was inconsiderate and unsympathetic and I disliked him with a passion in last night's episode. As Lara said he'll never fill Patrick's shoes, he's not even fit to clean them.
The scene with Charlie and Lara in his office was an absolute cracker. Lara was portrayed perfectly and Charlie was back to normal, he is so caring and normal, it's great to have him back. The kiss was pure genius, it was fantastic and it sealed the end to a brilliant scene, possibly the most moving since Patrick and Holly in series 15.
