| Electronic waste, also known as e-waste, has become a big issue. Technology is advancing so rapidly that our current electronic devices quickly seem obsolete to us. This is becoming a huge problem due to the fact that these items generate an enormous amount of waste (including some toxic waste). For a description of this problem go to: www.earth911.org What can be done? Resist the urge to upgrade frequently. For example, do you really need a new cell phone every 2 years? If your electronics are still useful, consider donating to a charitable organization or school. This might require making some phone calls, but someone might really be able to use your old equipment! Click here for some internet resources for donating electronics. Goodwill stores accept functional computers for donation. Click here for tips on preparing to donate your computer. Please don't randomly donate your old, non-functioning electronics to a thrift store. If you do this, the thrift store will be responsible for covering the cost of disposal.
