| The night started off with Bad Acid Trip,a little-known heavy metal band, their performance was not outstanding but it was loud and heavy, and the crowd ate it up.They were then followed by The Mars Volta,a strange prog-rock band that uses such instruments as the bongos, wind chimes and other weird instruments. In a span of one hour, they played about 3 songs.Sitting through their set was absolutely painful. When system finally took the stage, things got a whole lot better. They started off with the accoustic "Soldier Side",the song was done in total darkness,at the end of the song, the stage lights opened and they performed "BYOB" to a thrilled crowd. The stage was decorated with lots of mirrors and each member was standing on a persian rug.Lead singer Serj Tankian was laid back, while lead guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian was as hyper as a kid in serious need of Rytalin. He turned around in circles, yelped in high pitched squeals and sang little funny songs to introduce songs.Bassist Shavo Odadjian was also energetic, running on the stage from left to right and bobbing his head to the music. They played a set of 2 hours with no encore. They finished off with "Sugar"as Bad acid trip joined them on stage.Overall,it was a great show.**** |
