Sunday 28th September
Wee been let out of the dive expedition centre for a day to get some real food, experience running water, flushing toilets etc.

The last week has been fantastic. Every day has been long and hectic - we get up for a 6:30 breakfast everyday! The week has been spent diving and learning how to identify and name (in latin) lots of coral species. Starting to get there now, but still got lots to learn....

The base that we are staying at really is in a picture postcard location - we have a long white sandy beach all to ourselves, complete with palm trees and coconuts. Ive been swimming every day - have to take care to avoid the sharks and crocodiles that come in and out of the nearby mangroves though!!!

There are 24 volunteers here and we are staying in (dodgy) bunkbeds in 4 cabanas. They all have fantastic sea views! We take it in turn to cook - each day one of the cabanas prepares food for everyone else. Kitchen duty is like an episode of Ready Steady Cook - if you can find it and can cook it then you use it! Were starting to get some really inventive recipes already....

The diving has been great - really good visibility and some very unspoilt reefs. Got to play with some of the survey equipment on Friday which was fun. It was very funny when we jumped in holding the equipment - most people dropped something and there were tape measures and slates flying everywhere.

Yesterday was a top day as it rained really heavily during the morning! It was good to get a respite from the sunshine plus it gave us a chance to have a freshwater shower, wash clothes etc We rounded off the week with a big fiesta last night. Lots of beer and PG Tips (local nickname for rum and coke!) was had by all....

Im off to find another beach now...
