Simon has been a full-time drums instructor in Hong Kong
since 1995. He teaches at Tom Lee Music and at various studios around town.
His drumming experience includes playing with many different local bands, such as Lethal
Weapons, Photosynthesis, Dele, the William Tang Blues Band, and recently, Tangent, and
performing and recording for artists such as Eason Chan, E-kin Cheng, and Ho Chiu-Yee.
He has also won several awards the last couple of years in the annual Carlsberg
Music Festival, with two "Best Drummer" awards and two "Overall Gold"
band awards (1995 and 1997) under his belt.
But all this merit doesn't come without sweat on the brow... he has been studying the
drums since 1986, when he first entered the work-force as a computer programmer, after
studying computers at CityPoly University Hong Kong. He has studied drums at
Nelson's Music, Tom Lee Music, and with drummers such as Daniel Wong (until 1990).
Perhaps his prime musical experience is from his musical training between 1994 and 1995 at
the Musician's Institute (MI) in LA, where he worked with many top musicians from the US.
Between 1996 and 1997, Simon was a production assistant at Creative Artists Management,
where he was involved with recording with names as Clarence Hui, Chiu Tsang Hei, Wu
Chien-Lien, Jordan Chan Siu-Chun and guitarist So Tak Wah. Simon likes collecting
different percussion instruments from different parts of the world.
