CRAFTS

Everyone has some creativity within them. You may not believe it, but you do. Sometimes it's just difficult to tap into that creativity. Crafts are fun, creative, and it's a great way to chill and and relax sometimes. Life, school, home, work and other things have a way of stressing us out. Sit down and mess with some paint, color a picture, bend some wire around a picture frame! You'll feel better in no time! Here are some crafty ideas to get you started.

Memory Frame

MATERIALS:
  • Cheap picture frame, and size you want.

  • Acrylic paint (Apple Barrel works well and is usually cheep!

  • Paint brushes.

  • Memories! Use ticket stubs from movies or concerts, little trinkets (like from those machines at the super market!) barrets, paper clips, costume jewelry (that you don't wear anymore!) small pictures, stickers, small toys, magazine cutouts, anything that you think is cute or has some special meaning to you (that you don't mind glueing to a frame!)

  • Glitter, ribbon, glitter paint, silk flowers, and anything else you'd like to decorate your frame with.

  • Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks.

  • Buy a cheep picture frame. Wal-Mart usually has some for about $2.00 a piece; if you live near a Dollar Tree (wonderful store!) then they almost always have some (for a dollar of course!) Paint a base coat with any color you like. Let the paint dry and then arrange your collection of "memories" to your frame with the glue gun. Arrange them any way you want. Add glitter and ribbons or anything else you want to put on your frame. Write messages or favorite quotes on your frame with glitter paint pens. Put a favorite photo in your frame when you're finished and everything is dry and display proudly! Want to take it a step further? Theme your frame! Use special little things from a special night, like prom or a date and use a photo from that special event. Use stuff special to you and your best bud or your boy/girl friend and give it as a gift. There is nothing more special than a handmade gift from the heart! If you want to just have fun cut out pictures of your favorite stars and glue them to the frame decopage style. Decopage glue or school glue (used generously!) works better for this. Use your imagination! Go wild!

    Memory Box

This is a project I did for three of my best friends for Christmas. They loved them!

    MATERIALS:
  • A photo box (the cardboard kind used for storing photographs) or a sturdy cardboard box with a fitted lid

  • Spray adhesive

  • Clear Contact paper

  • felt or other fun material (preferably thick)

  • Construction paper or scrapbooking paper (the fun printed base sheets) or just anything you think would make a good background pattern for your box or just use the box if you like the pattern on it!

  • magazing cutouts of your friends favorite stars, clothes, things they like, books, photographs of you and your friend, poems, quotes, anything your friend likes that is on paper and can be glued down flat onto the box.

  • Using the spray adhesive cover the box and lid (seperately) with your background pattern. You want this to be something somewhat plain because it is going to be your background for your pictures and magazing cutouts. Cover the outside of the box and the lid. Then glue on the magazing cutouts, photos, poems, quotes, and other things to your box where ever you want them. Be creative. Cut out a picture of a big watch and then out a picture of your favorite star in the face of the watch. Put one in the center of a flower cutout. Use your imagination! Use inside jokes that you have with your friend. I had about a million old Teen, Seventeen, YM, etc., magazines that my friends had given to me that I cut out pics from. I cut out words that looked cute and made out sentences and quotes and little inside jokes. Put favorite song titles on there. Anything your friend would like. Then take the felt and line the inside of the box. You can put magazine pics or photos and things in the inside of the lid too. Cover every spare centimeter of the box and lid. When you're done very carefully cover the box and lid (seperatly!) with clear contact paper so your box will be water-proof and will last a much longer time. This also keeps your pics from peeling off or getting torn when the corners start to stick up after time. When you're done with that you can glue on ribbon or glitter or other things to the outside of the box for added sparkle! You can put small gifts inside the box like a movie, a small toy, keychain, or favorite candy if you want, or just give the box alone. I made one for a guy friend of mine covered in pictures of Britney Spears because he's addicted to her. The box was round so I glued one of those annoying free AOL CDs shiney side up to the top and put his name on the CD with puff paint because he also loves computers. I don't share his addition to Britney but he loved the box! Make one for yourself to to keep all your treasures in!
