Krishna Mala

Namaskar :) Thankyou for viewing this beautiful Krishna mala! It has been lovingly handcrafted with the very finest materials I could get my hands on, and some of the items were difficult to source. This full length japa mala consists of the traditional 108 beads. I have used real amber, and real jet beads, with the additions of real sterling silver (not plated), and 14k gold (also not plated, filled, or other junk gold).

Both amber and jet are extremely rare. Jet is composed of carbonized wood. The material was first found near the holy river Ganges and mentioned by Pliny in ancient Greece. Jet has been used since the Bronze Age as an ornamental stone. The Hopi and other tribes of the western United States used jet in making fetishes, beads, and inlaid jewelry. Jet reached its zenith in popularity during the reign of Queen Victoria, who wore black jet jewellry while in mourning for her late husband, Prince Albert. Some of the early tribes of Great Britain also made use of jet for jewellry making, and offered it as a divine gift.

Amber is not a true stone. It is fossilised resin of coniferous trees of the Oligoncene geological epoch, some thirty million years ago. It varies in color from pale yellow to dark brown, although some specimens have been found that are red. Amber is famous for containing insects and small animals of various kinds as well as leaves, bark and other contemporary detritus which became stuck and enclosed in the resin while it was still liquid. It is sometimes also called succinite. Amber has always been associated with magic. It is a favorite protective and enhancing stone of Wiccans and Shamans. It is a sensual, (amber is warm to the touch,) magnetic stone that attracts love. In ancient times, amber was burned to cleanse the air, especially during childbirth. It was also thought to improve eyesight by gazing into it. Touching amber is soothing to the nerves. Stones of the pale/bright yellow type are good "all-healers", since they represent the energy of the Sun.

Silver has long been known as Goddess metal. Silver is ruled by the Moon, a feminine planet, and therefore imparts a softened less assertive emotional energy to crystals & minerals that are mounted in it. Like the moon's energy, it has gentle, cool, smoothing effect. Thus it reduces inflammation, fever, nervous system stress. Excellent for mental, emotional, and physical releasing and cleansing. Works on mind/emotions to see overview, emotional balance, patience. Here it works very well with Jet and Amber.

Or, traditionally, malas are carried in a bead bag, worn around the neck. It is approximately 36 inches in circumference, and has been strung on stretch magic.
