| little girl slumps on her bed 'coz she had a hard day reaches out and turns off the lights 'coz her classes start at five but counting sheep won't help her now it won't let her sleep not with neighbors who fight all day who should have won the game not with parents who should know better than fight in front of the kids so she looks out her window, she wonders to herself, she's thinking why would anybody on such a good night spend their hours on hate? why don't they just look out the window on such a beautiful night? it's such a beautiful night... lady next door she never saw happy since she lost her friend the only one she's ever known since she was a child maybe now the girl thinks, she'll make the lady smile again so she opened a jar of fireflies and let them fly out on the world should this be my last act on earth let it be the one to make her smile then the fireflies circle the sky outshining the stars then there were no more television, sadness or wars then the people looked up the sky and held their breaths and holding hands they spoke as one and this is what they all said why would anybody on such a good night spend their hours on hate? why don't they just open a jar of fireflies on such a beauftiful night? it's such a beautiful night. |
