Witchcraft Hysteria
The witchcraft hysteria peaked between 1560 and 1660, although it lasted to a lesser degree for roughly another 90 years.

By 1730s persecution of accused witches by church or state had largely reached an end in Europe, Britain and America.

The last execution on grounds of witchcraft was not until 1745 in France. Her name was Bavaria Anna Maria Schwagel and she was beheaded.

In 1951 the Witchcraft Act was repealed.
