Vampire Miyu: Original Animated Version

Vampire Princess Miyu:OAV is slightly different from the anime series but the concept is still the same. Also, VPA: OVA actually came out before the anime tv series. Miyu still goes around getting rid of shinma and Larva is still her companion. However, the story is told from Himiko's, a spiritualist who isn't sure what to make of Miyu, point of view. There are four episodes to the OAV.

Unearthly Kyoto

The first episode of four, this is when we're introduced to Himiko, the spiritualist. She's been called to Japan to rid young Kyoto of a possession. In the process she meets Miyu, the mysterious vampire, and her companion Larva.

A Banquet of Marionettes

On another assignment, Himiko again meets Miyu and tries to find out more about her. At the same time, Miyu has her sights on a young boy but so does Ranka, another shinma. Their conflict comes to a head with unexpected results.

Fragile Armor

Miyu asks Himiko's help in freeing Larva from a binding spell. Miyu also must deal with a creature made of living armor, but he's not the only one who has it in for her. How Miyu met Larva is also revealed in this episode, which is different than how she met him in the television series.

Frozen Time

In this episode, Himiko learns of Miyu's past as well as how she came to be. She will also learn of her own ties to the young vampire.

It's a nice, short, series that's often thought to be better than the television series. You can find what I think about that here.
