How did Miyu meet Larva?*
Larva, a western shinma had come to Japan to take control over the japanese shinma. He arrived on the shores of the beach and met Miyu, the Guardian. Miyu, in her polite way, welcomed him while at the same time warned him not to come any further, saying she wouldn't let him past. Larva realized that to gain control over the shinma in Japan he would need to defeat her and prepared to do just that. Miyu and Larva fought, both were strong and experienced and the fight last for awhile much to Larva's surprise and pleasure. Eventually, Larva brought an end to their fight by slicing his long nails through her body. Her body went limp as she slumped against him and Larva thought he had won. He was mistaken, he soon realized, when Miyu lifted her head to reveal her glowing red eyes just before biting him in the neck.
They stayed like that for a timeless moment, her blood flowing into him and her own flowing into him. Larva was reborn with her blood. Recognizing his defeat and that she had spared his life, he asked what she would have him do. Miyu said she wanted him to "hold onto her life." Basically, she wanted him to end her life when she wearied of being a Guardian and he accepted and that's when he put on a mask (at least in the anime series). Larva's been with Miyu ever since as her strongest ally and friend.
*Note: This is just how they met in the anime series. They met differently in the OAV and manga series.
