| Chapter 1: A New Beginning | ||||||
| This is a new beginning, she thought. She was glad that she could finally leave the past behind -- the past filled with both joy and sorrow. There she was in a new place, a different world of her own. There she was to begin a new chapter in her life. When Dianne arrived at the Sydney International Airport, she was firstly introduced to a girl who looked a few years older than her. The girl was wearing a red jersey which fitted her very well. Her hair was just like Avril Lavigne's, only shorter and brownish-black. "Alicia, this is Dianne," Alicia's mother introduced her daughter to the new girl who was optimistic in life. Dianne smiled and greeted her new friend nicely, and Alicia returned her smile. A few minutes later they started having little conversations in order to know each other. Dianne was surprised, yet delighted when she figured out that Alicia was actually the same age as her. This is a chance for us to be close friends, she thought. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It was Dianne's third day in Sydney. She found that it was a wonderful place to stay. The weather was a lot colder than the city she used to live in. But it wasn't a problem at all for her. She was staring out the window of her bedroom. She tried hard not to remember the past, not even the happiness that filled her heart. She tried hard not to remember the sadness and depression that sank her deep into the darkness and gloom. She wanted a new life, a better world for her. She was imagining how her life in Sydney would begin, when someone knocked softly on the door. "Dianne? Are you there?" It was her mother. Dianne turned around, facing the door. "Yes, Mom. Come in," she said politely. Her mother came into the room. She only walked a few steps before standing still and not having a seat. "I just wanted to tell you that we're planning a trip around Sydney tomorrow," her mother started to speak. "But we don't know the area yet. And besides, we don't have a car, and... and..." Dianne interrupted, but paused when she was out of words. "Well that's what I was about to tell you. We're planning this trip with Alicia's family. I'm sure it will be fun. You and she will get closer as friends, and we can see what this town is like," Dianne's mother continued. She saw a smile in her daughter's face that gets wider and wider as she explained. "WOW!!" That was the only word that Dianne could shout out to fulfil her excitement. She wanted to jump, but in front of her mother? She found it would be embarrassing. "Oh... I forgot something," her mother added. Dianne tilted her head and looked at her mother. She wondered what her mother had to say. "Alicia has two older brothers, and of course they will be going tomorrow. Which means that you'll get to know more people, isn't that great?" Suddenly the phone rang before Dianne said anything. Her mother rushed outside to the living room. It 'is' great, she thought. And she would have the chance to know them too. But thinking of Alicia's brothers made her remember a part of her past that she wished to forget. She once had a boyfriend whom she had a crush on for more than a year. Unexpectedly he had a crush on her at the same time. But he didn't have the courage to make the first move, and that was until a year later. Dianne stepped out of her room. She thought too much about the past. She didn't want to think about her first love. She didn't want to think about anything at the moment. She only knew that she didn't need a companion -- until time heals everything. |
