1969 Avion Truck Camper Restoration

The plan and the starting point

My intention is to take two years or so to restore the camper to a 'nearly original' condition.   I will keep original those things that make sense to keep original.  I won't hesitate to update or modernize if it makes sense to do so.  For instance, the upholstery, curtains, carpet, formica, and other decorative items won't be of the original design or material.  Mechanical systems will be updated if I think "newer is better" and retained if I decide not to "fix what ain't broke".  I don't intend to strive for originality strictly for the sake of keeping it original.

As the restoration progresses, I intend to post photos that were taken from the same perspective.  Then, you can compare the 'before' photo with the 'during' or 'after' photo to get a direct comparison of what has been accomplished.  Some of the work will not be presented in the chronological order in which it occurred, but in an order that groups it with similar parts of the project.  For instance, I will alternate between  working on the interior and working on the exterior of the camper, but the bulk of the interior work will be presented together and the bulk of the exterior work will be presented together.  It is not my intention to detail every small aspect of this project, but to give the abridged "Reader's Digest" version.  If more detailed information is desired, feel free to e mail the author by clicking here.

The following photos were taken shortly after I brought the camper home but before any major work was begun.
