1969 Avion Truck Camper Restoration

Other Avions the author has owned.

This is the first Avion I owned.  My wife and I bought it (and a 1977 Chevy pick up truck) at a yard sale--yes, a yard sale--in April of 1987.  I had never before spent so much money at a yard sale.  (The story of this Avion and our purchase of it is enough material for another whole web site--someday.)  I had been looking for a truck, but the owner would not sell only the truck.  We could buy the Avion only, or the Avion/truck combination, but not the truck alone.  We bought the Avion/truck combination with the idea of reselling the Avion right away.  However, we found we liked the Avion so much that we decided to keep it.  This began our affinity for Avions.  This one is a 1971, 22 ft.

After a few years, we decided that a little more room and fixed beds would sure be nice, so we found and purchased this 1970, 24 ft. Avion and sold the 22 ft. Avion.

"Bigger is Better" seemed to be our philosophy, so after a few more years, we purchased this 1979, 28 ft. Avion and sold the 24 ft. Avion.

We had another attack of the "Bigger is Better" syndrome and bought this 1988, 32 ft. Avion.  After a month, we weren't so sure that bigger is better and we were torn between selling the 79, 28 ft. Avion and selling the 88, 32 ft. Avion.  Both the 28 ft. and the 32 ft. were extremely nice and both had everything we wanted in an RV.  We couldn't decide, so we put them both up for sale.  Whichever one sold first, we would keep the other.  The 32 ft. sold, so we ended up keeping the 28 ft. until October of 2002.

Oh yeah, I finally found a photo of the pick up that we bought with our first Avion at the yard sale.  It is still mostly original (including the original factory paint) and we still own it.
