Mythical Creatures: Phoenix
The myth of the phoenix has been around for thousands of years. It has it's place in Chinese, Greek and Arabian mythology, as well as playing an important part in the Egyptian religions.
In mythology, it is a symbol of life and death through its ressurection. It was supposed to live for 600 years, then consume itself in flame, and from the flames would arise a new phoenix.
In Chinese mythology, it was said only to appear in times of peace, making it a symbol of peace, and at the same time, a symbol of disharmony. It is represented by the Feng-huang, which represents the union of yin and yang.
In Greek mythology, the bird originated from Arabia, where it lived close to cool wells. Every morning at dawn, it would bathe in the pool and sing so beautiful a song that the Sun God would stop his chariot to listen. In mythology, there would be only one phoenix at a time.
More information will be coming soon hopefully.....
Birds which may be related to the Phoenix include the Roc, coming from Arabian mythology, and the Native American 'Thunderbird'.
