Long time ago, in the year 1322 BC, China was at war with Ja~chingchong_pan (now called Japan). Due to the absence of the army, samurais were formed by the cheiftains, not taking part in the war. Chow manchow, one of the royal samurais, fell in love with the King's daughter, Shanghai moon.
Chow manchow knew that the King would never allow him, a mere bodyguard, to marry his one and only daughter. And, much as he wanted to, he could not elope with her becoz, eloping hadn't been discovered yet those days.
So they used to meet secretly every thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday and wednesday night. It was one fateful saturday (or was it sunday) night that, the King, unable to sleep becoz he ate too much szchwan prawn chopsuey, decided to take a sudden mid-night stroll around the royal swimming pool. There behind the bushes he caught them and immediately threw Chow Manchow to prison. (However, the Chronicles of Tsumani did not state in what position the couples were when the King caught them...)
Chow manchow was not afraid to die. He is a strict follower of the Falung-dong Sect who believe that if one die because of love, he'll go to Heaven.
The King on the other hand, had some other things on his mind. He had visions of building an arena sort of structure, where ppl near and far will come and watch condemned ppl fight for their lives. (The Romans copied his idea much much later, and thus built the Colloseum). He decided that Chow manchow should be the first participant. He made a decree that Chow manchow must face the five monks, called the Shaolin Tigers to a death match !
When Chow manchow heard the news, he gave up all hope of living. The Shaolin Tigers were skilled in the art of kungfu. They could tear him apart within a few seconds, as he wouldn't be having his trusted samurai by his side. He started counting the days remaining for his departure. Worst was, when he could see the five monks showing off infront of his jail window every day.
Just as he was about to completely give up all hope, he noticed a small spider that kept falling down from its web. It was barely hanging on one of its thin thread. Just when the spider was about to reach its home, it fell down again. This process continued for the next 5 hours, but the spider never gave up. Atlast, the spider reached his destination. After watching all these, Chow manchow's eyes suddenly lit up ! YES, he now sees the solution. He continued looking at the spider and realised what was happening. His mind in an instant, became clear, and knew exactly what he must do next. He approached the spider, look at it for the last time and then whispered some words of gratitude. Then, in a flash, he grabbed the spider from its web and asked the Jail warden for a pan, some chillies and a stove, and then boiled the spider and made Hot and Sour Spider Soup which immediately became an instant hit in the region. His ingrediante spread like wild fire, and within two days everybody in ancient China knew about Chow manchow !!!!!!!
Since Chow manchow was becoming very popular (children started hailing him as a hero!), the king could not butcher him. At the same time, he could not go back on his royal words. So, he held a small impromptu meeting with his royal advisors, and in the end, he decided to go on with the plan. But, he also decided that Chow manchow would have a choice of selecting various kung-fu masters to teach him....
