John and I attended the Teddy Bear Tea Party last year and we anxiously awaited the one this year. But first let me tell you about Alicia Bear, whom we accompanied to the Teddy Bear Tea Party.

Alicia is a creation by me. I purchased a fur jacket at a rummage sale. When I saw it I immediately thought...Teddy Bear Tea Party. I took the jacket apart piece by piece making sure to preserve every inch of fur. At first, I thought I would make her and put a straw hat decorated with flowers on her, add a pearl necklace around her neck and that would be all there was to it. HA! Big mistake.

To make Alicia...I cut each of her pieces, from the back of the fur, making sure not to cut the fur... with a razor blade. I sewed each piece together pushing the fur forward out of the seam as I sewed. When I got her all together I purchased a straw hat and hot glued flowers on it. Placed it on her head...and guess what? It sure wasn't right. She deserved more than just a hat with flowers. She deserved a gown.

That's when the real fun began. I had to design a gown for Alicia Bear. Not just any gown...but a master piece gown out of satin and lace. Off to the fabric store. Designing for two days until I finally settled on a final design.

The pieces for the gown are very tiny. I cut the pattern out of tissue paper. Measuring Alicia Bear was easy...she didn't wiggle one time. I sewed the gown and put it on her...more designing was needed...so the design changed....the design changed several times until I reached the final gown.

Now for the hat. The straw hat was definitely out...too casual for such an elegant gown. Back to the fabric store to purchase buck ram (a stiff fabric for a firm base for the hat) and more pearls. I used a platter for the pattern to make the hat. It was the right shape and size. I used four layers of buck rum for the interfacing. I covered the buck rum with satin and lace. I also sewed pearls all around the brim. I hot glued flowers and a big feather on top.

She was all done.

Alicia Bear took me approximately a week to complete. She is truly an elegant bear. Everyone raved about her at the Teddy Bear Tea Party. I was so proud of her.....And oh yes, she has impeccable manners.
